Replacing door windows on '36 Plymouth

Replacing door windows on '36 Plymouth - 06/06/18 10:58 PM

On my '36 Plymouth coupe, I need to remove and replace the door windows in both the driver's side and passenger's side. There are two brackets that descend from the crank mechanism and terminate in a groove in the window channel. Looks simple enough, right? For the life of me, I can''t figure out how to position the brackets to where they can exit the groove and I can slip out the channel and window. There are numerous fasteners that secure the crank mechanism and I've tried backing them off to see if they free anything up.
I have to believe it was made to allow quick and cheap R&R of the glass so the installer could make a buck. I expect to be embarrassed when I learn how simple.
I don't have a service manual and I haven't found any online source, but maybe there's someone who has done it or knows of a resource that describes it.
I'd appreciate any information or referral. Thanks

Somewhere I have an FSM for a 38 Plymouth, but A. I have no idea if it's relevant and B. I have no idea were it is hiding. Might try the street rodd forum here

it has been almost 30 years ago i replaced the door glass in my 38 plymouth coupe, but i remember dropping the glass to the big access hole at the bottom of the door, sliding the arms out of the track, then pulling the glass and track out the top length wise. i think i had to remove the regulator/crank bolts and drop the regulator with the glass. you don't have a couple of pics by chance ?

This question belongs in the Street Rod category.

IMHO little if any thought was given to the window replacement guy's economics. A thought behind the design of any mass produced item is ease of assembly.

i am assuming the 36 has vent windows-----on a truck door you first pull the vent window and channel out----next pull the door glass forward and the rear slider falls out---you can move the window enough to get the front slider out....

i forgot about the vent window. my 38 had a one piece glass with no vents.

I've looked at a lot of '36 Plymouth pictures including a 1935 film about testing the '36 Plymouth and have seen what looks to be a vent window in only one picture. I believe that there weren't any. Vent windows were a complication and added expense for the car maker.
