Is the sump of the oil pan at the rear of the engine?

In general, each engine family will have front sump, center sump and rear sump oil pans. There is a different pickup tube for each style.

As this is a Mopar site, you'll have trouble getting anyone to tell you much about a smallblock Chevy oil pan. Plus, the location of the new suspension crossmember must be taken into account. We aren't knowledgable about that either.

You have already started catching flak for putting a non-Mopar engine in a Mopar vehicle. Sorry, that will certainly happen.

64 thru 67 Chevy II 283 and 327 used a front sump pan and a different pump with a long pick-up that matches up with only that pan and pump.
