Help me identify this rear end

This rear end is in my newly acquired 37 Plymouth 2 door businessman coupe, it's got modern brakes with a Ford/Mopar 4.5 bolt circle pattern, what is it?

Front

Ford 8".

Looky like an early Oldsmobile to me.

Ford 8" are flat on the bottom + the pinion bearings have a cover on the front behind the yoke, which this doesn't have.

Olds had a 4.5 inch bolt pattern?

Oh ya, forgot about the flatness. I don't know anything about any GM types.

Not sure on the bolt pattern for cars way back then. Someone may have put other axles in it when they did the rear brake swap?

I'm not 100% sure it's an Old axle, but it looks like that more than anything else I can think of right now.

Are the ends of the axle flanges flat, or do they have a nut on the end? are the springs narrow,(like 2" wide)? It almost looks like the original 37 Plymouth rear end. That rear end was used up until 64. They were a lot like an 8 3/4 but nothing from the 65 on 8 3/4 interchanges. Gene

Olds rears don't have a bump for the ring gear.

These appear to have the bump in the back, and a bunch of mounting brackets that Dave's doesn't have.

‘57 olds has leaf springs. Those in the picture from eBay aren’t from a leaf spring car.

Here is a guy selling just the center section. It has three ribs on the drivers side and two on the passenger side with one angled up at the 10 o'clock position. Daves's rear end has too much dirt on it for me to see if the fill hole is in the same spot. Note to Dave to please wash his rear end before sharing pics please.

Tabs on the housing could have been cut off in the past. Or maybe it's not a 57-64 Olds Pontiac setup?

I think that 57 58 59 and 60 Olds all used leaf springs. 57 Pontiac had leafs, but 58 through 64 Pontiac used coils, along with the 61 through 64 Oldsmobiles.

From your other pictures the axles don't appear to be the type that have a nut holding them on.

That is a '57-'64 Olds/Pontiac rear.

wouldn't that have a 5" bolt pattern if the axles are stock ?

Lotsa things get tweaked in 60 years...

Thats for sure, I don't know how many different motors this has had over the years but guessing from all the welded on brackets or what's left of them I'm guessing at least 3 different motor set ups
