Evans coolant

Anyone running it? I switched over to it ( from water / glycol mix ) in my 33 a few days ago and I now have an engine operating temp about 15 degrees higher than before???

i have read about that happening before, but supposedly, since it has a much higher boiling point, it doesn't matter ? that doesn't make one feel good when lower temperature readings are desired, such as you have been addressing. and that stuff isn't exactly cheap, is it ? can that stuff be cut with water ? if so, how much ? just some out loud thinking here.

Ya, I read that in their Q&A section on their site. They really should change it to "will run warmer". Yes, at $45 a gallon it aint cheap. Yes, according to them you can cut it with water or water / glycol mix. Of course this will lower the boiling point, but how high do you need it? surely not 345*, which is what they are advertising for straight Evans coolant. I never had a boiling issue to start with ( or hot soak problem ) using my water / glycol mix. Higher operating temps can lead to other issues (detonation for one)that I don't need. I will probably go back to my old mix with a water wetter additive. Seemed to work best. On another note, I am now running a separate trans cooler ( out from the lower rad tank). Although this change had to help, it's too small to measure any change on my temp gauge.

It is mostly propylene glycol. It's not really a bad price, considering that pure propylene glycol is running about $45 per gallon. Pure propylene glycol has a boiling point of around 370 degrees F. In the same way that pure ethylene glycol doesn't cool as well as a 50/50 mix with water, propylene glycol doesn't cool as well. I don't know if its a lower specific heat or heat transfer coefficient.
Freezing temp of pure is -59 degrees F.

It's mildly toxic. I'd have to ingest 5 1/2 pints to have a 50% chance of dying, but I'm pretty big.

I often think these little groups of true believers are like religious cults. They believe, regardless. Maybe you're coming out into the light.

I never saw the attraction. They flog this stuff for big trucks because the hotter you run a diesel theoretically the more efficient it is so they claim better fuel mileage and the sheep flock to the door.

What they seem to ignore is the fact that all the engine clearances are engineered around a temp range about 30 degrees cooler than they recommend running it to.
