We're working on a 241 for a 33 rod. Our plans were to use an adapter for 700r. We have a complete trans from the original 53. What are the draw backs if any to using the original transmission in the 2300 lb rod? Never did 1 of these before.

Fairly simple trans, not eh most efficient ever made but pretty stout.

No OD is probably the only draw back if being compared to a 700r4

...1954 was the first PF trans....
But, as said, if you do have the PF they are not complicated and if in working condition it saves you the cost of an adapter.
The down side for most folks is the parking brake assembly.

Now, if what you have is a Fluid-Drive or, a Hy-Drive......

Not real sure what this trans is I have to do more research. It's a torque convertor with a clutch. Has the drum attached to the tail shaft. With 2 solenoids off the side. Thanks for all the help.

Not a powerflite, sounds like some kind of fluid drive/Gyro-Matic trans?

yes that sure looks like it! the original 2 barrel must work that trans as well. lots of additional vacuum connections.
