Hey RodStRace!! Good to hear from you!!
I still have the Jensen. Kept my Coupe and my buddy's Nova. I sold a 548ci engine and bought back my Charger. She kept the Magnum.

I'm back full focus on my Coupe, hope to have progress pics as I go....

Where's Ron?!?! smile

Re: Back on it..... 40 Plymouth - 01/06/16 05:34 AM

Ron's around and recently got back on his stuff too.
Now I remember the Charger, it was nice, but didn't stick in the memory banks like the Interceptor.

I got laid off, out of work for a while and recently got a part time job at a parts store. Got some of the missing parts for my 40 and it's on the 'front burner' although the weather means not much work has been done and the lack of funds means it will still be a while until it's running.

Love the '40's. I passed over two last winter. Just too many projects and not enough $$$$. I was bummed.

Sorry, I didn't see this until tonight.
Not much as far as 40 stuff. I will need to source the clips for the front trim (grille and hood). That can wait until it's running.

I need to plumb the fuel lines in the back, mount the gas tank (need some C channel or square tubing), have the lines and fittings. Also need a fuel pump (97 Jeep Wrangler). Good to fit the filler neck too.
Got radiator hoses, need to run them (probably splice the lower).
Mount the electric fan and trans cooler, plumb the cooler to the lines and go over the engine (rotate it, prime the pump, etc.), then reinstall the front clip fully.
Get some switches for the interior (ignition and lights) to check out the wiring.
A '92 Dakota cluster with tach (have a non-tach cluster, but the harness is tach style.) and fab up some mounts for it.
Run some aux battery cables from the left front area to behind the seat.
All in all, not too bad a list. Just need to get the fire inside going again.

Hi Mark!!! Thanks!!!
Coming from you that's a heckuva a compliment!
I'm heading over tomorrow night to work on it, it's at a buddy's house. Trying to get the body/floors done so I can paint jambs and firewall and cage and get it running!

How's things? Any Allstate news?
I toss stuff up on Facebook all the time. Just search crazymoparguy.

Good to hear from you!! I'm alive!!!!! lol

The Allstate didn't get out last year. I lost my lease for my shop after 27+ years, and had to move !
I built a place at home to put my junk, including the paint booth! LOL
This year I hope to get the Allstate back out, to race, and do a cruise.

Keep the pictures coming!
I am excited to watch your progress, on the coupe.

Re: Back on it..... 40 Plymouth - 02/02/16 11:04 PM

This is the way the front of the car sits now. It's almost finished from a rough in perspective but I keep toying with the idea of AC if it would fit....
Yes or no on the AC? My buddy says it should NOT have AC, as it's intended to be a groundpounder. I just think hot summer days it would be nice. It ain't gonna be a trailer queen....

Re: Back on it..... 40 Plymouth - 02/02/16 11:31 PM

Yes on AC

Re: Back on it..... 40 Plymouth - 02/03/16 04:10 AM

Not sure where in Canuckia you're at, but how many hot summer days do you get there where you'd actually use AC? About the only time I use the AC on my 65 is when I take it down to West Texas where SuperCuda's from. Then again, I don't know how many long trips you'll take either. Looks like it'll be a whole lotta fun either way you build it.

Re: Back on it..... 40 Plymouth - 02/03/16 04:41 AM

It gets hot here but nowhere NEAR down south hot.
I plan on driving it all the time. I don't mind windows down cruising, but long hot days in traffic are a lot more bearable with AC..?
I'm pretty sure BC summer heat is nothing compared to Texas heat!

Re: Back on it..... 40 Plymouth - 02/03/16 04:42 AM

I'm not a big AC fan, and cruising is better with the window down and my elbow out in the wind, so take my opinion as such.

I agree with 1E2C, how often will you really use the AC up where your at? Does the car have insulation? Will the AC pump clear the injectors? How do you feel about having hoses running across your motor? A lot of women like AC and the windows up, if that is a concern. If the cowl vent still works, they can pull a lot of nice cool air into the car. On the other hand, wind noise really bothers some people, if you are one of them and like the side windows up, I think AC is almost a must.

Personally, I say no, but as I grow older, that AC is gaining some ground. Gene

That's me Gene, as I get older..... wink lol

My cowl vent works, now on an electric motor because space wouldn't allow the stock lever configuration.
Girls? I'm single now. (insert joke here lol)
I think I could get a pump in, but as many of you say, we aren't THAT hot in BC, and I will mostly be driving evenings and nights in the summer I would guess. I plan on quite a bit of Dynomat, so that leaves me with deciding if it's worth it for a few dozen days a year.
I'm sure tons of people have had the same decision. Wonder how they thought of their decisions a couple years later....?

Do you have room to mount the AC compressor down low? Like this?

Re: Back on it..... 40 Plymouth - 02/03/16 06:56 AM

I will have to look and see if I have the link. I think it was from Bouchillon (sp?) I mounted it there and the owner had me move it to the top so he could use the stock fuel pump.

Found it !

Re: Back on it..... 40 Plymouth - 02/03/16 11:30 AM

age and health issues are forcing me to insist on ac a lot during the summer. also, humidity plays a big role in comfort. do you get a lot where you are ? the low mount setups are the ones to use. lets the visual appeal of the upper engine stand out. mark got you going in the right direction. and just so ya know, you ain't my type....... apimp

Re: Back on it..... 40 Plymouth - 02/03/16 07:44 PM

I vote for A/C. Two reasons are:
1. Defogging the inside of the windows. I hate having to do that with a squeegee while driving.
2. Resale value. You may have to sell the car someday, God forbid! and that will be a good selling point.

Of course, if it helps get you some action with the ladies, all other reasons become unimportant.

I vote for Vintage Air. Jack Chisenhall is a hot rodder at heart.

Re: Back on it..... 40 Plymouth - 02/06/16 06:23 PM

Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

Lots of days it's not too hot but when you add in the humidity, the comfort level drops rapidly especially in BC.

Re: Back on it..... 40 Plymouth - 02/08/16 07:18 PM

There are some good points towards adding AC. I have to ask, back in the old days, if the AC wasn't consistently used, the seals would dry up and leak (our 04 PT Cruiser comes to mind here).

Are the new systems so much better that the compressor & hose seals won't deteriorate if the AC is only used a few times in a year? I understand that the AC functions when the defroster is also used, but it is entirely possible the defrost may not see action over the course of a year either, given his location and the fact that it is a hot rod.

Do we go through the expense and effort to install AC for a possible 1/2 dozen times during a year, and can we expect it will function for the 5 or 6 times next year, and the year after? Or are we installing it for the next guy (who may or may not want or use it), and it probably won't work for him either? Gene

Re: Back on it..... 40 Plymouth - 02/20/16 10:40 AM

Well nothing on my car is for "the next guy". My car is a keeper.
I just don't know if I want real comfort in summer....? Or windows down like I did for years is good enough....?

Re: Back on it..... 40 Plymouth - 02/20/16 06:57 PM

Tough it out Mark and just go with the windows down.
Nice to see that you are back working on the rod.
