That car is awesome!!! Too bad about the engine though. An old school Hemi would look great in there.

Hey! I built one of those, kinda. Never finished it, sitting in a buddy's barn right now.

Solid front axle, Mopar 383 4 barrel, 727, 8 3/4 rear.

Built it from a field find to this condition in 52 days with the help of a buddy.

That is a nice car! Gives me lots to think about for my 49 dodge. Like the tilt front end, firewall on mine is already cut and was looking into new suspension with my 8 3/4. Looks like he used the stock frame in the rear, cant tell if he had to narrow the rails to fit the tires. Well looks like I found a used scattershield to get my project off the ground.

OK, This may sound dumb, but what exactly does the term gasser mean? I mean this was the way they raced in the old dayts. But doe sit mean a straight front axle, jacked up and what else?

I have this 38 Plymouth coupe it has a gasser look now. I was going to make it a street rod. But what intailed in the 'GASSER TECH".

Sorry Dave...there was a thread here awhile ago that had a link to some VERY comprehensive info on gassers...right down to breakdowns of all the classes. If I remember correctly, they were largely pounds per cubic inch classes. In the early days, I'm assuming for weight and simplicity reasons, to get the frontend up for better weight transfer, straightaxles were common. By the most technical definition, to really be a gasser one would have to be racing in a gasser class...say, for instance, my 56 Plodge weighs 3600# and is 360 CI. 10#/CI. That would put me in (theoretically, as I don't remember the numbers) B/Gas. If I was supercharged, I think they called that SB/Gas, or something like that. The rules also required (though they did evolve over the years) things like a stock front seat, or door panels, or gas tank in a certain location, etc. Man, I really wish I'd saved the link...

That should give you a basic idea, at least.
