Picked up me a new toy.. 37 Dodge - 11/30/13 12:28 AM

Here is my new to me truck. SBC with a 700R4 disk brakes mustang r&p. Great driving truck that is a tone of fun. Going to fix the inside up but leave the outside just like it is..

not to keen on the tractor grill in the dodge shell.
I like the looks of the stock grill much better.
and everyone knows what I think about SBC or ford in a mopar.

good luck with the new ride, have fun

Re: Picked up me a new toy.. 37 Dodge - 11/30/13 02:00 AM

Well the Dodge grill was long gone.. I may try and find one and replace it. As far as the motor and trans goes It will live there until It dies and then gets replaced with an LS motor.

37 must have been a good year for Dodge Truck sales based on the survival rate. What are there half a dozen or so on this forum in various stages (including mine)?

Looks like a neat truck, but I do agree on the grill. It's also kind of interesting that they deleted the spare tire well.

Well like I said in the first post.. I just picked this truck up. If I can find an old Dodge grill I will put it in.. if not it will stay like it is..

I am not brand loyal to any brand. I love old rides and as long as it does not have an import motor in it I am ok with it..

That is a nice red 37.....

well to the real mopar people a chevy in a mopar is an import

trust me I have nothing against chevys, I have built a few myself, they just don't belong in a mopar.
a mopar deserves a mopar in it

chevy people see nothing wrong with putting chevys in everything..
put a 318 mopar or a 302 ford in a corvette or camaro and see how you ruin that car.
oh well some people will never understand...

here is a grill shot you deiced

Re: Picked up me a new toy.. 37 Dodge - 12/01/13 01:53 AM

They're Hot Rods and open to any engine, use what's available.Hemi in a pre war Willys,Nailhead,Early Olds or Cad in a early Ford must be not right either?

I like it,i would maybe swap the grille.

If Ron will cut me a deal on one of those other grills I will document the destruction of that thing on the front of my truck and post it here for everyone to see..

Good answer, now every body will be happy. and by the way, nice ride. For me you can run any engine you want, just don't open the hood.

I am amongst the Mopar in a Mopar group, but I suppose if the hood isn't opened, I wouldn't know for sure what is under it.
On the current grill insert, even something home made would be better then what is there right now. None of my old cars had the correct grills in them, they were usually rusted junk or already missing when the vehicle came to me. In my eyes, a bbq grill modified to fit the housing is better then adapting a tractor grill on the front. Then again, my opinion is worth what you paid for it. its your truck, have fun.

No Ron, I only use Chrysler drivetrains. I am very guilty of 1 wire alternators though

If I say anything needs a Mopar engine,I get flamed for it

Boosted, that is a cool ride and if you have the 5.7 Hemi, do it! They are pretty good engines

Strangely enough, I don't hate the grille that is in it??

Re: Picked up me a new toy.. 37 Dodge - 12/02/13 12:10 PM

The hemi had an oiling problem and I bought it as a core.. It will be a long time before I make a change to it. Right now I am just having fun driving the old thing around.

As far as the grill goes.. Well lets just say that Ron has shown me the light and after seeing them side beside it is a no brainer that it has to be changed. And it will be...

That Ford tractor grille probably has some value, the 8Ns and 9Ns are gaining in value daily.

Re: Picked up me a new toy.. 37 Dodge - 12/03/13 01:12 AM

You sure that is a tractor grill? It reminds me more of the center section of a 40 something Studebaker truck grill. Maybe just the shot angle.

Has it got a Hemi Yet?

Re: Picked up me a new toy.. 37 Dodge - 12/03/13 04:15 PM

Rats, upon closer study it isn't a Ford tractor grille.

The good news is that the shell looks like it could be saved with a disk grinder.

Yep, it could be out of a Stude truck.

Any way you slice it it's bastardized and ugly.

I'd look at salvaging the shell and creating vertical bars out of EMT. Maybe horizontal bars to be different.

What would really be cool is the new horizontal bars like in a brand new Chrysler 200 or 300 with the indented area in the middle.

Great truck! I too am a mopar or noc ar guy I know guys like Ron and I are a dieing breed and often get crap from more and more so called mopar guys. I guess who would have had tgo live through the 70s and street racing to understand being the outcast most of time and proud of it.

I do understand using what you have but I am big into trading and you never know unless you ask. You may find someone who wants to trade you for the SBC or sell it and build that 5.7 which will be great under the hood.

Just my

It would be nice to have an all Dodge truck but with my health issues right now I am forced to enjoy it as is. I can do small things but the big things will have to wait.. Diabetic and Stage 3 Kidney failure with an amputation..So I am fighting this stuff everyday....

One day health willing I will get it changed out.. I may try and find a magnum motor with an o/d trans and put that in there.. A guy can always dream..

Anyone use the lower control arms yet for a Mustang II that eliminate's the "strut arm"?? I see some that are even 5/8 of an inch narrower to help pull the wheels in towards the center of the car some.

Im looking to up grade to these "NO STRUT" rod style lower arms....ANYONE have any input on these??
