39 DODGE CONV VIN#'S ??? - 11/26/08 05:33 PM

Does anyone know where to find the chassis vin # on a 39 dodge conv?? I have a customer who bought one and the DMV is ginving him fits to match the vin number before they'll let him register it.

a 40 is on the passenger door jamb.
The tags underhood are not the VIN, and there is no tag on the driver's side or on the dash area.

Rod, where is it on my 37 Plymouth truck?, there is a tag on the firewall below the column, anything stamped on the frame?

Just bring it by and I'll take care of it for you!
I know that in the teens and 20s, the frames were worth more and had the numbers or they used the engine number, but by the 30s the vehicle number may be on the body somewhere.
I just did a search, and found this
http://www.ply33.com/misc/vin

Hope this helps, and if it doesn't I'll still take that sweet truck...er, I mean that hunk of junk with no number off your hands!
I'm going to look thru the rest of that site.

Great info according to this my truck was built in LA if I read the chart correctly, my vin is 9207738

The story of it always being in Ca along with the Standard Oil tag along with a Ca build really puts the history together

Plymouth Serial Numbers
Serial numbers are from [Chrysler 1973]. In parentheses below the 1928-29 “FedCo” numbers are the translated numeric strings. In the case of Canadian built cars the unknown letter “G” is left as a question mark.

Pre-WW2 vehicles with a model code ending in “X” were export models. The one exception is the 1933 PCXX (Standard 6) built for domestic US sale. The export version of the 1933 Standard 6 was the PCXXX.

The value in the “Total” column is the difference between the start and end numbers.

We pulled a body off a 39 Plymouth sedan. There was a vin # painted on the top of the frame rail on the driver side about at the center x member. Don't know how you would ever see it if the body was still on the car, and it being painted was pretty dumb in my opinoin. This car was from CO and you could read the # pretty well. Gene

Well, thanks to this thread I have discovered that my 34 Plymouth coupe is actually a 34 Dodge coupe!

My car wasn't on there either so I emailed Tod Fitch who owns the website at
webmaster@ply33.com and gave him my serial #. He is the one that told me my serial # came up as a 34 Dodge.
