My 39' Dodge truck ratrod project - 10/17/12 05:29 AM

I finally figured out how to get my pictures sized right to post them on here so I thought I would upload one plus give a description of the project.

39' Dodge cab
87' Dodge D50 frame
70' Mustang 8"
74' Mustang II crossmember
80's Dodge Omni rear steer rack and pinion
29' Dodge grill shell
30' Chrysler headlights
67' Barracuda /6 (out of my 67' Barracuda)
65' Mustang radiator
69' Plymouth A-body pedal assembley
48' Ford bedsides shortened 20"

Nice! Awesome that you used the slant 6 to power it.

@ crazyjjk, thank you! The /6 looks right at home in there too. I'm building it to be my shop truck and to cruise to shows. It should ride real nice on the freeway. I made a custom mount and modified the alternator tension bracket so the alternator sits behind the grill shell on the drivers side. Kinda evened out the motor side to side.

Looks like a fun project.
The rad shell looks funny with the big opening on the top. If it was mine, I'd probably either lower the rad shell, section it (take some out of the middle and bring the top and bottom closer together), or add a filler piece on the top, or any combo of each. Gene

@ poorboy, the plan is to fill the area above the radiator. I'm still in the fabrication process and haven't got to that point yet. Good eye though.

Get out the 3/4" masking tape and string some lines from cowl to grille shell. That'll help you figure it out.

Update! I know it's been awhile lol... - 11/03/15 03:11 AM

Finally got back to work on the 40' Dodge hotrod. Had a driveshaft made, cut floor and welded in driveshaft and trans tunnel along with floor. Welded in upper filler panel for radiator. Installed all new rear brakes and drums. Installed master cylinder. Installed shifter. Just ordered brake line kit with proportioning valve and residual valves so that's next. It already runs with my make shift wiring, so after brake lines are done I should be able to move it in and out of the garage. [img:center][/img]

Also chopped the top 3 1/2" with the help of Ron Padsiadly. It looks so much more in proportion with the chop.

HaHa sorry Ron! It's Podsiadly huh.... I don't know why the "o" didn't look right lol. I have been busy! Finally got a wild hair to finish it. I'm almost done with the brakes. I have all the hard lines run and master cylinder mounted and connected to the pedal. I'm a pair of transmission lines away from driving it in and out of the garage. [img:center][/img]

Finally got her running on her own power! Just missing the water pump belt so I couldn't run it too long. Just a quick out and back in the garage to see if the tranny was working. So stoked!!! Check out the video link.

Re: My 39' Dodge truck ratrod project - 12/31/15 01:43 AM

Just added an OTB air cleaner to my 40' Dodge. These air cleaners are hand made and cast in the USA. It's an extremely nice piece and fit my carb like it was custom made for it. They come in polished as well and the rivets are stainless and logo is brass. I ordered mine in un-polished for an old school look and it's awesome. Check out their website by searching OTB air cleaner. Lots of cool made in USA hotrod stuff. [img:center][/img]

Got both door latches welded in. up [img:center][/img] [img:center][/img] [img:center][/img]

Re: My 39' Dodge truck ratrod project - 01/03/16 10:40 PM

Good to see you making progress on the latches. Are you planning to use the factory door handles? It was a pain for me to do in the Plymouth pick up but I used the factory inner and outer with threaded rod and heim joints.

If I ever do another hot rod I'm going to make sure the factory door handles work. twocents

Thank you! I'm getting excited at how close it's getting. Ya, the plan is to use the factory outside door handles. I have to put them back in and see how I'm going to attack it.

Got my seats today! Put them together and set them inside the cab. Super happy with them. You can't beat the price. This company has a lot of really unique hot rod stuff too, check out their fuel tank. Here's the link http://www.rottenleonard.com/index.html [img:center][/img] [img:center][/img]

Great job, I like the idea of using a slanty. Maybe thats an idea for my 35 Plymouth.

@RUMBLON, thank you! I don't regret using it all. It's gonna cruise so nice and get great gas mileage plus it's super torquey (if that's a word lol). The super six set up really woke it up!
