OK a challenge to a few moparts guys - 02/29/12 08:00 PM

I am throwing out a challenge to a few moparts people who's cars I would like to see finished and on the road.
first this is embarrassing but my racetruck project was started Nov 26 2006

I found an old thread and when I seen the date I was like WOW I can't believe I started that so long ago

I did finish Squattie and my Brothers car in the mean time.

I really plan on making passes on it this year.
so this WILL be the year I get it done...

I really want to see B1Arno's 34 dodge coupe done and
moparcrazyguys cool hemi powered coupe as well.
and moparX's radical humpback.
and hemialstate's cool car..

we really need to get our butts in gear. Ron...

Well, I went back and checked my first post, Oct 2008. At that point I probably had a couple of years in it so I'm looking at about the same time frame as you Ron with the race truck. I did not have any other car projects but have had plenty of house projects. I am hoping to have mine running this year(spun the motor with the starter for the first time today. If I do get it running this year, it will move, stop and steer but still be quite a ways from being ready for the street. It will still need glass, interior, body and paint. I'm kind of like a turtle, slow and steady.

GUILTY AS CHARGED!!!
I just loaded most of my Coupe's parts into my shop. My air compressor and my welder aren't operable yet, but they are dug out, and my air compressor shed is mostly done. I have about a week's work on my shop left, but it IS usable as is. First time in a little over a year!!!

I am finishing my Charger, just put in 10+ hours on it last weekend, not THAT much left to do. I've also got a motorhome to strip, a motorhome to build, a house with a few projects... but once the Charger is running my Coupe will be my main project. I have 95% of the parts, just need a driveshaft and paint supplies....

I'm in!!!

I hope to get the Charger done fast, watch my daughter try and get me to give it to her... ... and then I turn my attention to my Coupe. Floors first!

not to hijack your thread but don't feel like the lone ranger, i have been working on a 41 willys coupe since about 2003 and it is finally in the shop getting the interior, i have done a few other cars and projects along with being down with some injuries, by the way one of the cars i did for a guy is kind of down your way in fallbrook, its a tan 65 dodge a990 clone.

Re: OK a challenge to a few moparts guys - 03/01/12 03:06 AM

happy b-day ron ! and EMBARASSED I AM that the humpback has taken so long ! that thing started in 1973 [! !] believe it or not, and in all this time, a lot has been learned as far as skills and methods to accomplish tasks at hand. for some reason, i always had[have] time to fix stuff for other guys, but not my own. even as we speak, i am involved with a 1929 model A roadster pu for my cousin charlie. there are lots of modifyed and one-off parts on that build[including mopar parts ] that i designed and fabbed and that has taken around 4 years or so. anyway, back in 2000 , i was diagnosed with MS. this has been a setback in a couple of ways, some good, some not so. to the good, i have LOTS of motivation and ideas. the bad, however, is the time it takes me to physically accomplish the tasks i undertake due to the limitations of the desease.[oh, and pay the docs to keep me going ! ] even though i mite have problems, don't for one minute waste time pittying me, because there are lots of guys out there that are in FAR WORSE SHAPE than i am ! the fact my shop is not heated don't help much either....... you guys keep kicking me in the a$$ so i stay focused on the task at hand and hopefully, i can show results on my humpback project ! so much for the rambling........ keep pounding away on me guys !

i`m trying to finish my desoto but it won't be done this year, i`m sure. i bought it in 06 and made some progress. i usually don't work in the garage from nov.-march because of the cold weather. i did get the new trunk floor/fuel cell in it and the dakota front clip/motor trans mounted. steering column and new gauges/panel too. 318/833od have been rebuilt also. i did build a 69 valiant since i bough it too. just finishd a building a 360 for my friend as well.

“.......Whew! Birthday boy missed me.....”

Looks like I got a pass on my 37 Dodge too.

Ron I turned the big 60 one week to the day before you……seems like to good time to reflect that “I’ll get (back) to it one of these days” better happen pretty soon

I started mine back in 03 and finally got it back in the shop last fall, moved it out of the shop 3 months ago to make room for a customer’s car (picture below). Was planning on getting back in the shop last week, but got sidetracked detuning my old mustang for the wife to use as a daily driver (rear end swap, head swap, and converting back to an automatic). With any luck the 37 will be back in the shop on Sunday.

I really really want to have it moving under its own power this year.

Mike P, Please don't paint that truck! I think it's perfect the way it is! If you ever want to sell it, I want first dibs... I wish you best of luck on finishing it!

I felt like my 56 belvedere is taking a long time, it's been down for a year and half doing my drivetrain swap on it. I am just about to fire it up in a couple days! fingers crossed. pics to come soon.

Hey Guys,
How about some updates and pictures of your progress. I love seeing the fabrication and hard work of others. Conquering the challenges that always come up etc.
How about it ???

Re: OK a challenge to a few moparts guys - 04/16/12 02:24 AM

My old junk has been on the road since April 2nd. Its not near as nice as all the cars/trucks you guys are building, and never will be. Since the 2nd, I've put about 200 miles on it, every time out I get a new list of things to chase down, but that's expected when you use a lot of used stuff on a rusty body. Its a true rat rod, safe but not pretty. My wife and I did about a 120 mile cruise today, on a fairly warm and very windy day, with scattered rain showers. It worked like a car is suppose to, now I can start on doing the interior.

Sorry, no updated pictures, been too busy driving it. Gene

Gene,
I have never seen anyone build a car in such an ingenious way as you did yours using the Dakota chassis. Having fun and driving it is what it's all about. Congrats !!
