street/race mufflers performance and longevity - 11/25/11 05:46 PM

I'm curious to hear about what race/street mufflers people are using and what they think about the performance and longevity of them.

I've been using Dynomax Ultraflow, Welded Ovals, 3", Center-Center, straight throughs for about 9 years. They seem to last about 4 years+- before they rust through. I just had my second set rust out. I really like the performance and sound but I wish they lasted a little longer. They are advertised as being stainless steel, which doesn't mean they won't rust but that they are "resistant" to rust.

So this is what I think would be good know:

- Manufacturer of muffler

- Model Name

- Type (e.g. chambered, straight through)

- Longevity

- Size (e.g. 3")

- Est. HP

- ET/MPH

- Comments about noise/sound quality/performance

- Grade 1-10 1==bad, 10==good

Hey Joe I use the Dyno-Max Ultra-Flows also. I use the welded ones like in this pic. But I had the last set on the car for 5 years and they were still in good shape. I only took them off when I put the new eng in this year as I went to the TTI 3" X-pipe system. I put new Ultra-Flows on because the old ones were kinked alot from the muffler clamps and I just went with new ones. I di think the Ultra-Flows are one of if not the best performance muffler since they are straight thru. Anyway I hope you had a great Thanksgiving. Ron

I run 3 1/2 Hooker Aero chamber mufflers with an x pipe. The system ends at the rear. I have been 10.084 @ 135.21 mph through them 2 weeks ago. I will be running without them this weekend but it will not be good comparison with Vs without since I did a converter swap also.

- Type = Spin chambered
- Longevity = 5+ years (on dakota r/t then duster)
- Size (e.g. 3") = 2.5" offset in, 2.5" center out (Getting new 3" soon and will be selling these as they are still great.
- Est. HP = ~700 FWHP
- ET/MPH = TBD
- Comments about noise/sound quality/performance
Absolutely love the sound and get compliments every time I take it out for a drive. Sounds exactly like This.

I was surprised how small they actually were when I purchased them.

- Grade 1-10 = I would give it a 9. No drone at all.

i run the Dynomax Bullet mufflers. not really suppose to be on the street but i had them on my old aspen and i know a few others who run them on the street. they sound really nice. i've had them for over 5 years and still work great. i haven't really noticed any performance changes with or with out them. have shorties but now also have another set on a full exhaust.

I have the cheaper formed and crimped mufflers Magnaflows 3 inch 7x14 ovals with the side inlet with the center outlet straight thru, they are mounted at the rear bumper. They have been on the car since 2005 when I built it, I don't drive it a lot, maybe three thousand street mlies total so far and several hundred passes at the track It is a lot dryer here in Central Oregon, I hear, than it is in Maryland
