Racers, how old are you and how long racing ? - 11/12/11 03:52 PM
Just reading another post and got me wondering , since a of us regulars on here will never meet in person. How about letting everyone know how old you are and how long you have been in this crazy azz sport. I will start
Me 55 years old and started racing when I was 2 weeks from being 16 years old. You do the math.

I'm 63, as of August and have been racing 45 years. But the street rod bug is getting pretty strong lately!

I'm 65 and been involved in racing sense 1962 in one form or another. Karting, Soapbox Derby, Road Racing, Rally, and Drag Racing. I would do it all over again.

racing is a relative term. some people think they are racers because they make make a pass down a track or chase ET's . racing to me is competing against other racers for some kind of prize.having said that I have no issue with anyone who likes messing with cars and having fun.turned 54 this year and started racing in competition in 1976.

I chased points way too many years. Found out later than sooner that I would never be famous or make a living at it. Now I do chase ets and test and tune is my favorite part of going to the track. Having to face me in the first round is like a gimmie to the one beside me.
Oh well I can start drinking a little earlier than my friends.

I’m 67 years young. I started when I was 18 then took a very long break to raise a family and complete a 28 year military career. I started racing again in 1996 and plan to race until they plant me.

Just turned 60; started late '60s with high school buddy's car @ Lions. By '71 crewed a C/G '63 Vette and had a '57 Chevy built for MP that saw a lot of street racing because I was foolish. Then worked on FC & Baja stuff, bodies and minor fab work. Then got into road-racing for awhile but mostly building/restoring: Can Am, TransAm, NASCAR Southwest Tour, had a canyon-carver. Then crewed a Sprint Car & got a few rides in that. Back into drag racing (brackets) in '94, but that's tapered off a lot the last couple of years; ran some more road courses in my Mustang and am again leaning that way. Building another street/strip Mopar though for a more fun/less work drag car.
I'll say this: I've been fortunate to meet or work with some of my heroes, and even though I rubbed shoulders with a lot of Hollywood along the way, I'd rather hang out with racers than any other group of people.

27 here. On/off for 8 years. Spent a couple years only racing 3-4 times a year. Between 2-3 jobs full time student just couldn't afford 4 speed parts when I broke em'. Took almost 2 years to save for my GF4A. Better job now and hopefully for years to come.
Look forward to anything mopar next year especially Josh Kings stuff and trying some class racing in 2013

57 here, 58 this month.
First time down the track was in 2005, but I raced Pro Motocross for years when I was a just a tad bit younger.
Plan on racing until we run out of fossil fuel

53 years young......started racing in my early 30's........legally.
I have almost always had some sort of nice ride to play with and a dedicated race car for a dozen.
Sold it and focused on motorcycle enduros till my body told me to cut it out.
Now I am closing in on finishing what will easily be my fastest car.
Hopefully , funnest coincides with that.

40, and hope to start racing competitively next year. I did manage to make it down the track a few times about 8 years ago, then like threw me a series of curve balls.

I am 60, and my first passes on the strip were in 1967 at a very primitive local track.I have not made a pass in years, but that should change this coming season. I guess I will now fit the "ET Chaser" class with my Allstate, which should be my fastest ride so far. I have owned the Allstate car since 1969 or so.

Always liked racing, life just got in the way for many years.

I'm 37, bracket raced from 97 to 04. Racing Stock & Super Stock since. Finished 5th in Division 6 SS points this year.

I just turned 57. Bracket raced sporadically from 73 until I got married. Started again with a few passes here and there in the early 80's. Got serious and chased N/SS points until 02. We won a fair amount but I got tired of the travel. Still run the street car a few times a year. New N/SS car will be done for spring so I can go back at it. No points chasing just a good time at selected events. And yes as always I'm serious about wining.

I`m 50 and started street racing in the late 80`s then made my first pass in 89 I think and have been "chasing et`s" ever since..........

Been a weekly bracket racer (3 different rides) since 1988. No plans to quit anytime soon.

57 years old. Started racing in 1975 at Connecticut Dragway. Then it closed in 1976 until 1980 when I got back into it.
Tried to get away for a while by riding Harleys but I'm too much of a junkie...

62 in January, been legally racing since 71 off and on with four different cars, the 65 Dart since 1978.

I'm 52, been drag racing since 1975, We spectated at the old Alton Dragway and Whitehall Ill track before that. first car 71 plymouth satelite,
318 car ran 17.80, won sportsman class at the track 4 weeks running
got a trophy for my winnings! still have everyone I have won

I am 57 been racing something since I was 16. Ran motocross, roadraced, and dragraced motorcycles unitl late 80's and switched to cars. Been as fast as 7.65 at 185 in my Mopar powered dragster before I sold it.

I'm 63 and started racing a Super Stocker in 1971. I quit in 1975 when I became a Federal Agent. I got back into it in 2003, and have been running Stock Eliminator since 2010.

I am 42,started street racing my 68 Javelin when I turned 16. I started bracket racing at 17 and won a couple of trophies with my street car. I built a new 360 AMC for the car and did a little more street racing back around then(no I don't think it was smart).
I drove my brother's 73 big block Charger once and decided to go Mopar after that
I bought a 68 Charger in 86 and have building and racing Mopars ever since then.

In 1957 I traded 3 motor scooters for a 1948 dodge-fluid drive. I painted flames on the hood and fenders that I thought made it run faster. I was 13 and had no drivers license and a lot of us didn`t. We knew the police and every thing was cool. I raced on the street until `62 until I built a h/gas flathead `50 ford club coupe that I raced at Green Valley Raceway in Smithville,Texas. I have friends drive my `70 `cuda because I broke my back in `09. I can`t drive but I still act 26-I`m really 67.

shooting the bull. Figured it out a few years ago , 1 to 2 hours of running the car and the rest of the night to talk big about it.

Raced in 1970,1971,and 1972 with my '69 R/T Coronet......gave up on it for 30 years and started again in 2001!!
Built some hot cars inbetween though and terrorized the streets.
My 60th B-Day today, but it's raining dammit......was itchin' to celebrate by tearing some race rubber off the Challenger in the driveway!!!

Wel I just turned 47 yesterday. First time at the track was when I was 17. As far as actually racing a car on a competitive level only a few years seriously. Before that I was a T&T guy/ET chaser. Also did my fair share of street racing. Older and wiser now I guess

In 4 days I'll be 72. I've been racing since I was 15. Started off with old Ford stockers that would run about 19 or 20 seconds in the quarter. Progressed into a channeled 32 Ford 3 window with a hot flathead. In early 56 I bought a Chevy power Pack engine out of a 56 hardtop that the guy put 400 miles on before he totalled it. If I remember correctly I bought the adapter from Honest Charlie. I believe I was the first person in Louisiana to put a Chevy V8 in a different chassis. Went to the AHRA Nationals in 1961 in Texas. Continued running the car until I sold off everything and joined the Air Force in 1963. The friend I sold my 32 to still has it today. When I sold the car the engine was 283 ci, Isky 5 cycle roller, ported heads and Algon fuel injection the little car ran pretty good. From 63 until acutally 85 I was out of racing because of my Air Force career. Have been back in with Mopars since 85 and will stay with it until I feel unsafe driving. Still doing fairly well, I got down to 5 cars at a big race 3 weeks ago. It's been a blast!!!!

36 years old. Bought my GTX when I was 16. It was my first car. Went racing once when I was 18. Borrowed a set of slicks, gears and a better carb. Didn't go back until I had a better job, new 440, a truck and trailer of my own.

Tore my first 383 down when I was 13, built/ported/bored/sleeved/ it when I was 16, went out and did some testing to get a "handle" on the timing and slipped the sleeve
Rebuilt with new block, so I didn't race until 17.
Chased ets until about 2000 when I got serious about points. Since 2002 I haven't been below the top 5. Now I'm 36 Mechanic/restoration/performance guy/ .
I have a bunch of 500 leftovers, roller stuff etc. but still trying to get the max hp out of the 383, so I can run SM (11.50) and Pro. Currently the fastest mph in SM
but not enough
. (did go 130 in a 67 cuda though)
Might build my 64 to house a 500 for fun..
Thinking about traveling to Mont,AB,OR, in the future so be sure to say hi.

Started to race on the back roads in 1969 then at a drag strip in 1971. Had a 1968 formula s 4 speed Cuda. I am 57 and acully having more fun now.

Gary Densham was my auto shop teacher. He and his partner, Ben Buchanan had a 1969 or 70 Mustang.. Powered by a Big Block Chevy.. Pro Flite trans..
If I remember it was a Modified Production car B/MP..
"Teachers Pet"..
I had a 1960 Valiant at the time.. 12 second small block Mopar..
I'll never forget when Densham said to me.. "Someday you'll get smart and drive a Chevy, and it will be the happiest day of your life"
I guess I'll never be "Happy"
I do however have 5 Wallys to my credit..

I'm almost 45 and started doing the test and tune/et chaser about 6 or 7 years ago. Gave in to peer pressure (thanks a lot Sean). Now I'm starting to get a little more serious and trying to race at Mopar events at least 4-5 times a year. BG, I know what you mean, my wife says I act like a 12 year old too!

54 years old. Started at 14 drag racing a 350 Honda motorcycle at Keystone Raceway Park. Nobody ever checked if you had a license back then.
At age 8 was my first ever time at the track.My brother started racing a Nash Metropolitan.

I'm 47 been racing since 1970 with my dad @ Detroit Dragway 1970 Challenger RT/SE Hemi (Loose Change) Art Fons built back half car. first time down the track @ Detroit Dragway in dads car for the High School Nationals then in my x brand car that ran 12's.
Dad is still driving (Daytona) and I'm in a Super Scamp. My Son (16) will be driving my car real soon.
Keep the racing tradition going..

I'm 49.I've been going to the races since 1971.My Dad raced from 1971-1996,and I got his car in 1999.Started bracket racing in 1982,and have been on and off since then.Built a nice car of my own back in the mid 80's,but ended up selling it.Son goes to college next year,and since I did the state college prepaid deal,I'll be able to get out a lot in 2012.Tuition payments have stopped me from going out this year,but I did manage 2 TnT's.My Dad is still involved with the car as he and I build the engines,and if I can get him out to the track next year,I'm going to have him drive.

Just turned 20 this year....Been around street racing since I could walk and I still attend them occasionally.
. Maybe one of these days ill finish up my car and make it to a track
Street is just too risky now.

59 yrs old,will be 60 in february. Been racing off and on since 1968. Lately its been mostly off due to health problems. I still enjoy being around the sport and watching,helping others do well.

I`m 57, first trip down the track was in a 64 Dart at a small track near the Ohio/Pa. border when I was 17, and a few times after that but serious Points/ Bracket Racing since 1982 when I got my Dart as a matter of fact I just got home from my home track were I got down to 3 cars in the Gamblers Race for the second week in a row.

Started racing myself in 1969, but helped my cousin with his new Hemi SS car since 1964, attending many nationals and divisionals before I started doing it myself. You'd think I'd know better by now....

Haha, that might be the case. Around here, the street racing scene isn't as big as it once was, but the ages are all over the place. I actually have never went out of town and did and full pass street racing. My car is usually torn down hahaha. Our closest track is 2 hours away, so there are some pretty quick street cars around here.

I'm 63 yrs young, started out going to Lions in Long Beach CA
to watch at about 17. Moved on to chasing girls, after the Army
started going to OCIR to spectate and making pass's at T&T's
ran a Stock Eliminator 340 Duster in the early 80's, spent the
next couple of decades crewing for friends. Started building this
BB Duster about 2 yrs ago and hope to be out this new year with it.

I'm 63 and started working in 1964 on my brother's 58 Plymouth "Christine" car with the 350 Cu In big block! In Sept of 1964 my Mom, Dad and I ordered this 65 Coronet and took delivery in Oct. of 64. I'm moving it to our shop at my eldest Son's tomorrow, to begin putting it back together so my Grandson can drive it when he gets his license in 3 years, and becomes a 4th generation driver of the Dodge! Meanwhile, our 64 Belvedere will be back next year for racing fun!! Picture is of my youngest son MFR440 and I at Bristol, TN Mopar event several years ago!

I am 55 and first raced at the track in 1975. I bracket raced a 4-speed 340 Dart until I rolled it in 1982. Got banged up pretty bad and had a lay off from racing until I got a Dart in 1997 and built a mild 383 for it. Got married and had a few kids in the lay off years but the bug got me so bad I had to get the Dart in 1997. Been driving and racing my street/strip cars since then. Just mostly a test & tune guy with a few real races every now and then. I just love to run my street car and have fun racing some buddies at the track. I took auto shop in high school from 1970 to 1974 and have been an auto tech since 1974. This was the Dart I put the 340 four speed in and bracket raced until I rolled it in 1982. Ron

First 'sanctioned' race was in '68 @ Hyde Park in Newark, Oh. Won F/SA and F/PSA the same day,,HOOKED for ever!! Been in and out a few times over the years, even 'retired' once, but, I'm back again the last couple years and looking forward to several more. Pic was taken awhile back, but I still look pretty much the same...

24 here...started racing the day after I got my license when I was 16. I raced alot of footbrake and tnt nights for about 3-4 years and got out of it for awhile because I sold my ride and the one after that lol. My valiant hasn't made a pass with the turbo yet but I hope to get back into it next season. I only chase ET...everything else has too many rules or cost too much to compete.

Wow. All of a sudden, I don't feel so old. I turned 54 this year and started racing in 1984, with my car. I had driven my best friends '70 383 'cuda 4 speed a few times.
I raced quite a bit until 1995, when I parked everything. I wouldn't have admited back then, but I had gotten burned out. Through out a divorce, marriage, changing jobs and moving half way across Tennessee, I managed to hang on to all my "stuff". At the urging of my new wife, I dragged all my stuff out in 2007 and updated eveything and went back racing in 2008. I managed to win a few gamblers races and runner upped in a super pro race that first year back.
Since returning to racing in 2008, not counting gamblers races, I have been to 13 final rounds, winning 6 of them. This year has been capped off by finnishing 5th in Pro (1/8th mile footbrake), 3rd in Sportsman (1/4 mile footbrake) points at Bristol, and winning my first "Wally". All this with one car.
And Valerie is still glad she "pushed" me back into racing. It don't get no better.

I am 42 and my first 1/8 pass was in 1993.
Would not call myself a real racer, since all I have raced is T&T.
First pure drag racing car was bought in 1988.
I do plan on racing a fast index class, that will be more than T&T.

I'm 45 Started street racing in 1983, started competing on and off at the dragstrip in 1985, stopped street racing towards the end on 1988 and started bracket racing and chasing points full time the begining of 1989 with my Cuda.

50, went to the track, infrequently, for T&T/brackets from 87-00. Then made the mistake of tearing it down for major upgrades. Got too involved with family and "getting ahead" in other ways. Learning to get my priorities right and apply more time in the garage.

55 now. Started when I was 17. My Father had no interest in racing so I don't know were I got the bug. I took my first 340 apart when I was 17 and after waiting over a year to have an engine built by the local expert, Did it by myself when I was 18. Made up my mind that day I will never wait again to have an engine built.

I'm 57 and started street racing in 1970. I gave that up in 1977 when my first son was born. I started bracket racing around 1990. I am NOT a E.T. chaser, but I am a R.T. chaser. It seems like the older I get, the more the good ones elude me.

OK guys I don't post very offten but I like this one. I am 48 and been racing since 14. I started with a 1960 Chevy pick up running a 383 MoPar and 727. Since then I have run an FED an RED, a 71 Demon with a 440 and a whole string of others. I built my first engine at 12 in my bedroom (Mom loved that). I have chased points and TnTs. I started out racing on the street as have many others. Nothing to be proud of but it is what it is. My best pass in my RED was 8.15 at 165. Always raced BB MoPars. Now I am helping my wife run her 73 cuda that sports a 512/727 and my son with his 440/727 68 Bee and my daughter and her 73 Duster 440/727. Maybe some day I will get back into another car as I am currently building a 70 RR 500/727.

I'll be 54 in Dec. Started street racing before I had a drivers license. I've been kind of hit and miss at the drag strip through the years. I've never had a 'race only' car or truck, I've always enjoyed driving it on the street too no matter how snotty it ran. Half century here. My lovely wife is still two years from that milestone. Have not been racing that long. Got into it when we got the 70 RR and realized there is a drag strip down here. It has been a great way to expand our base of friends. Too many people move here from Babylon into gated communities with a bunch of other state siders and complain that things here are not like in the states. Well, duh, what were you thinking? Go back to the mainland. The group of racers here is a very diverse but welcoming mix.
Here is a pic of Michelle and I at the track. She runs her 67 Land Rover too. Great thing about brackets. She has won money some nights. Nothing like dialing a 25.00 and watching the poor [Edited by Moparts - Family Friendly Site - Keep it clean] who has dialed a 13.00 sit at the lights for 12 seconds.
Oh, one of us in the Crucian Christmas Festival, too. That was a good time!!!! The local ladies loved my hair:

Well just the same old story!!! Started at 15 running my dads 70 Charger at TNTs.It was a 4sp car and was a ball.Bob Reed lived about 2 miles down the road.It was all dowm hill from there!!! My first car that I got at 11 years old is my 68 Dart I still have it today.Mopars,Super stock and Pro Stock have been my life since I was a small kid.
Bob wanted me to build a SS car but their was this new thing called Street Car Racing(KOS).I was driving my Dart everyday to school and work.It had a 440 and was a fast street car.So in the spring of 96 went the the Rock to see if I had what it took!The KOS cars were the sickest cars in the land.I ran that race and had WOOD for days after,LOL.I was runner up to Andy Mayes.I was hooked.He had the record at 9.80s and I went 10.00s.Not bad for a cast crank 440 with some NOS.I got the bug and only missed one race in all the years of the KOS.Now keep in mind I was only 18 years old!!!
I gave the better half of my life working on that old black BI_TH.
The best the car ever went was 8.60s ,I always built everything on the car,EVERYTHING!!!
Started working on a Super Stock car with Bob for Ronnie Sox to drive and the Hemi fever set in!!!I made it a goal to have a SS Hemi before I was 30.I made the first pass in the Hemi at 28 years old.2 kinds of people,those that got Hemis and those that want a Hemi!!!!
The shop had blowed up with work around this time so I parked the Dart and started building and driving my cutomers cars.It keeped me busy but not the same as running my own car.I have owned about 60 cars over the years from Max Wedge to Hemis.The Dart is stiil in the corner!!I built the Dakota last year to make a come back but life has kicked me in the nuts all year.My mother passed at the age of 53 in March.She was in perfect health.Had a massive heart attack.I closed my shop up after 10 years.The 4 kids keep me running all over the place so racing took a back seat this year.Next year I'am coming out balls to the wall!!!
So for a half A$$ body man with a burning passion it has been a HELL of a ride so far!!!!

I will be 23 in December and my first race was the "High School Nationals" at Milan Dragway when I was 16 (I skipped home coming to race my grandfathers Demon). So, I have been racing street / strip A-bodies for 7 years. I will say that I am purely a hobby racer and didn't even get a chance to race this season. When I do get out it is once or twice a year. Hopefully next season I will be able to get to the track more and beat my best to date from 2010.

I started in 1974, my dream was to run Modified Production some day, then that plan was changed to Super Stock...I did run S/ST from '93 to 2002, cost to payback ratio sent me back to brackets. I couldn't imagine doing it today, entry fee $200 and payout the same as 1993??? And the contingency payouts are a fraction of what they used to be.
Now we have seatbelts every 2 years, next year a new helmet (snell 2000 no good), $7.50 racing gas...I can hang a few more years, I guess...

Started pit crewing for dad's 52 Plymouth coupe at Pacemakers Drag Strip at the age of 6 and started driving his Chrysler powered Willys at National Trail Raceway at the age of 15. Still racing Chrysler products and still have the old Willys. My paper work says that I am 60 now.

Turned 29 this past year and have been driving since I was 10 years old. So that makes the upcoming 2012 season my 19th season behind the wheel.
Hard to believe it has been that long. Started running a Jr Dragster at Fairmont Dragway in the fall of 1994 and havent looked back since. My first pass was a blistering 16.57 @ 41 MPH but I caught the bug after I hit the throttle the first time and havent looked back since.
This sport has given me many things, hell I met my wife at the dragstrip in 2003. I have made so many life-long friends and have found an extended family.

hi, st racing in 1965 with 265 1955 chev stick shift. then a 65 /273 4 spd dart. both cars were takin to the track also. i run a 340/72 duster in stk elim, 4 speed jerico, rune mid 11 sec, n wheele's up launchs. 67 y/o now, and can still shift a 4 speed very good. young guys don't drive stick cars, only older guys do.

58 and not really feeling it yet. started racing in 1973 with a 1965 satellite (which I still have). I took a short break (6yrs) in the late 90's to learn our business better, then started again around 2002 with nostalgia super stock. It's a blast met lots of great guys. I'm the goof on the left.

Went to my first race at Santa Ana with my older brother 1954. Started racing in 58 with my 51 Ford at Long Beach and San Fernando. Quit racing in 67 and started again in 92. Raced until 02 when they fused my neck and I had no money. Built a street car that I now race ocasionally when the body and money are both OK. I'm 70 now,

I'm 70 and I still run an NHRA Super Gasser ('88 T-Bird w/ 511 B-1). My first "rod" was a '51 Ford flatty back in 1958. My first Mopar was a Max Wedge 426 in a '55 Chevy in 1965.

63 Chevy would have been lined up in the lane next to my 63 Sport Fury in the mid 60's as the 409's and Max Wedges went heads up ! Course we know which one won most of the time. I really like the 62 to 64 Impala's and if I were a Chevy man I would have to build one with a 409. Got any pics of it and stats on the car as I would love to see the pics of it ? Ron

Thanks Ron. I will say if you and I were to line the outcome would not be in question. You would clean my clock. My 63 is relatively stock. 327 with the fuelie heads,stock intake cleaned up a little bit with carter AFB, Municie 4 speed, Stock interior, 4,000 LB car. The best I have run is in the low 13's with street tires. Without a doubt would be better with slicks. It is a driver that I put 2,500-3,000 Miles a year on it. Not a show winner but I drive my vehicles and the fact the car has been in the family since brand new. My father bought the car brand new down in Virginia. He raced the car in the 60's. I have had the car since 81.

Wow that is really a nice 63.
327 or 409 it dont matter as it looks great. And I love the pic of your dad leaning on the car.
Nice Charger also as 68 is my favorite year Charger. Believe me my 63 is far from perfect as the red paint hides alot of imperfections. I would love to have a pic of our 63's together. Thanks for sharing the pics.

I'm 45 started racing my 73 cuda in 1980 at a high school days event in Marion SD. nine differnet drag cars later I'm still loving the thrill. The new FED 582 B1 runs 7.60 @ 176 mph fun fun fun.

72... at least for those that are willing to participate.
I'm 45 and started in brackets at LACR around '87. Now I mostly direct and redirect a never ending project and hope to make it back out on the strip some day soon.

There must be someone older than me. Started racing in 58 with fire breathing 18.8 second 51 Ford. Raced until 67 an when to tuning flat track bikes, water skiing until 89 and then back to racing in 92. Raced my 67 Barracuda regularly util 02 when they fused my neck. I stil go out once in a while whith my street converted 67. It's fun to make a car with 3.23's go in the mid twelves driving it to the track. I'm now tring to make it get 15 MPG with a 450 HP SB. I've hit 14 so far. I am still adicted to acceleratiom. Hopefully I may get to make a pass in a 1.50 60' car next year. I don't race much because at 70 with not much seat time, I would need unbelievable luck to win a race. I guess that why it's called "drag racing" not "drag winning".

59 been racing Points/ Seriously since around 1983 went to the track a few times before that, first time racing a 64 Dart at a small track near the Ohio/ Pa. border near New Castle Pa. Ran at Island Dragway ( still hearing about a reopening soon but who will run it is in question) for over 25 years now racing Points at Raceway Park/ Englishtown.

...part of me doesn't want to respond but here goes...bought the GTX in my sig in 1975 bone stock for 750 dollars, made my first legal pass down a race track in it in 1977 at Gainsville Raceway when I was in the NAVY. Drove it down there, opened the headers and installed the 8" M&H Racemasters and let it rip, drove it home on the slicks and open headers.
Built my real first bracket car in 1984..in order from 1984 until 2010 I raced a 1968 Barracuda, a small block powered front engine dragster, a 1980 model hard tailed rear engine dragster (with a tube front axle
) a 1998 model S&W hard tailed rear engine dragster and a 2006 model S&W 4 link rear engine dragster. I am 57 years young and all of my race cars have been Mopar powered. I sold my last race car in 2010...but I am considering buying a door car to run Super Gas and Brackets....I need serious counseling...

Update, update - When I first posted on this thread in 2011, my car was running in the high 11's. It now runs in the mid 10's and I am several years younger

Yea I cant even remember if I posted in it but made my first pass down the quarter mile when I was 19 and I am 45 now so looks like I have been racing for 26 years.

I am 66 now and I acquired the Ramcharger in 2008 to build. The last real race car I sold in 1987, so there has been a little gap
I have been recuperating as fast as I can from knee and back surgery and it looks like I may have to install a transbrake, because the surgery was on my right knee and the nerve communication is a little slow. Or I can always leave on the first amber

I traded my motor scooter for a `48 Dodge,then `50 Merc.,`70Dodge,`65Plymouth, `55Chevy, `59Pontuac,`50 Ford, `66Ply., 64GTO, and 70 Ply. `cuda. I raced on back street of Denton, Texas @ 13yrs with a pillow on the seat, when mom and dad were gone,1957. All were race cars and I have won a little money with them and spent more. I cant drive due to car accident in `09, but I have trained 2 drivers so far and have no problem getting one. You have no idea how tough is watching some one else drive your car.

60 years of age here...been doing this since 1968, involved since 1964 when I was a tyke. Been in love with it ever since.
Had a brain tumor a few years back, and don't move quite as quick, but I do feel pretty decent most of the time.
I drive some, my son drives some. He'll probably being driving my car more this year..although he has own. Anymore, I get as big a kick out of seeing him run it as I do driving myself.
It's been great...so many memories...so many good folks over the years.
It's still fun.

Cant believe Ive missed this post, must be getting to old to see, 61 here, first pass on a real drag strip was 1968 at Halls Tn in a 1961 Chevy, havent got over that yet, I was allready a seasoned street racer by then though. I took a long break from about 1980 to 1993 when I found this old Savoy, still lots of fun, I like everything about it, I allways tell my wife, You know there are worse habits than this, heck I use to have a couple of them. Truth is though she likes the sport about as much as I do.

I'll be 64 in August, been racing since around 1968. Had a 305 Honda Super Hawk raced with a flagman. 73 i bought my 64 max wedge and sold it in 79 for 2800 dollars, what a sucker i thought. Had a 383 Duster then another 64 savoy in 92 then a 70 cuda and now i'm back with my 64 savoy. Setting it up for NSS or A/fx with a hemi.Seen alot of changes over the years some good some bad. I'll try my hand with loading these photos, hope they come in. this is the engine going in the Savoy

I was 18 in 1975 when I made my first trip down a real drag strip. I had a 1970 dart Swinger w/ a 340 and automatic. Like every other gear head, I was certain I was driving an 11 second car. I was sure disappointed when it barely broke into the 14's. Had the car until 1997. Ran a best of 11.40. Drove a friends Belvedere for a while and had some success. Haven't been on the track for 10 years. Maybe one of these days..........
