Aluminum Trans shield ? - 11/10/11 03:45 AM

How does the aluminum trans shield compare (as far as protection) to a blanket or composite shield.
Is it still legal? Can it be re-certified?

IMO the aluminum ones are tougher, never seen shrapnel come right through it like the carbon fiber ones occasionally do.I think the CF ones cover more area though. If you do buy an aluminum one be careful of TCI (Total Crap Incorporated) as I bought one from them and never took it out of the box for 6 months. When I did I found the holes were all drilled in the wrong place and they told me to go pound sand.I believe they can be recerted on condition they are in perfect shape. No alterations, abrasions, oblong holes, etc.

That sounds good. I have one that has never been used but would need a recert. I think it is a CSR but I am not sure.

Thanks,

I agree, a few years ago, I ordered a deep cast aluminum pan from TCI along with their shield for 727. Was told by TCIs tech guy that as long as we were using their pan that the shield would fit, WRONG, the bottom of the shield didnt'come close to fitting, had to make some steel straps to extend the bottom of the shield enough to fit.

Now I run a Glide w/ BTE deep cast pan and BTE aluminum shield, fits great.

I looked at it this AM and it is CSI. A closer look and it has TW RCP stamped in the side.
Thanks for the number David.
