Broke my junk today..

Broke my junk today.. - 11/05/11 12:49 AM

Well it was not that bad. I broke the ring gear off the flexplate. Ended my divisional this weekend however. Not really what I was hoping for. We had made some changes and were running well. Put on a new throttle stop and changed converter back to an old reliable one and had high hopes. This morning on the pass the ring gear broke I went 11.03 at just under 157 in 2900+' of air. Not to bad. Oh well we will get ready for next year.

Oh yeah I also broke a mounting ear off of a brand new alternator, so looks like about a $1700 weekend YAY!!! I did get my new chassis cert. As well as new back tires so it will be ready for some future abuse by someone else here in a couple of weeks Guess I better get it back together so he can have some fun with it

Glad it wasn't serious other than the loss of the weekend. Same thing happened to me last time out- broken rocker, junk in the motor.

Billy there were 50 cars there from what I saw on the sheet. Seemed like more. Now that first round has been rescheduled til tomorrow maybe we can make it out as I now have a flexplate for it.

Chris JJ blew his motor up last weekend.

Hate to hear about the breakage. But good to hear you can make first round. Maybe that is a sign you were meant to be in this race.

Where was Gary going on that run Chris??? Ryan has had a phenominal year, he has SST wrapped up, and is like 4th in SG.

The SG T-bird that crashed was Jim Gallatin...I believe this is top-end crash #5 of his carreer..twice in his old Pinto, and this is the 3rd in the T-bird, heard he was loose from 800ft on. Late night racing at the last divisional gets treacherous when the temp starts dropping.

After breaking the ring gear off the flexplate in qualifying, working his way all the way to the finals is a good accomplishment. I give him credit for a good showing and working to get there.

Re: SST 6th (final) round - 11/08/11 04:09 AM

Thanks for the kind words guys. I appreciate it, I really do.

Jim dont believe those DA numbers from 1320, we were in 2700ish feet if air most the day. I think round one was 2400ish by the time we ran.

I guess I need to thank Chris and Billy G for prodding me to get back out there. Well and mother nature for providing me a way in.

As for the final. Well I made a bad decesion. Never ran Palvadore before, heck never ran a 150 mph SST car and got two today. Anyway I had the thing right there for the taking a messed it up. I was on an 11.06 pass he admitted they missed it and were on an .08. I gave it back and did not trust the numbers. My bad. The worst part for me is being a bridesmaid again. This was the first time in a race for the Wally I had the race in my lap and just made a bad decision, in the three previous attempts my opponent ran dand near pefect runs, worst package I had seen in a final before today was a .006. Did not know my opponent well and just flat out blew it. Time for an air card for the laptop to keep tabs on the competition.

Oh well maybe one day I can win one of those dang things. Or maybe take up fishing or poker...Got to be cheaper than this is.

That confirms what was written on DRC, the air was not as good as 1320go.com was showing.

I was wondering why both cars ran 11.10ish when your 1/8 mile ET was only 0.005 slower than your earlier round.

Re: SST 6th (final) round - 11/09/11 02:44 PM

Al, Congrats,
You're a far better driver than I, just need a little more seat time against those boys. You had to feel like you were playing with house money after that semi-final: 4 inch stripe while Bycroft was scrubbing 5 to try and back into a 20 mph charge? Gets my blood pumping just looking at the incrementals on that one!!

The final, hey, like Chris said, "Don't beat yourself up", It's a lesson learned, just a shame it came with a wally on the line. When Scott raced that Camaro, it was set-up similar to yours, 1.9X 60ft.s and the booming 115 1/8 mph speed, but Bernie changed all that to position the car further downtrack, closer to the slower cars, and to force the faster cars to reel him in. That tug on the brake at 900ft. is exactly what that set-up is looking for...you had been pulling up on him for darn near half the track, then you give an early tug on the brake, and have to ride out the last 300ft not able to get around...that's a punch to the gut!!
Bernie is a very good driver, but he is the most meticulous and thurough guy when dialing a car that I've ever met, extremely cerebral approach to the game. Like you, he is a part timer. The two of you with 8 races to pick up points in 5? Yeah, that would be entertaining, I'd pay to watch that!

My buddy Ryan has 2 Wallys in 9 finals, he knows your pain. I don't have a clue, never been there!!

Scott and Bernie aren't newcomers at this for sure..

Scott was Division Champion and a Jegs All Star..

And Bernie has won his share also..

Nothing to be ashamed of..

BTW.. MoparBilly (Billy G.) is probably the best Super Street racer I've seen without a Wally.
