Since I am "search" challenged, I need some help.

I have my battery in the trunk, cut off switch, and the alt wire run to the back also. I saw a posting, nice diagram, awhile back about using a ford solenoid to run the alt wire to, so when you flipped the switch it killed the engine, like you are supposed to have, and it kept the alt wire from being hot all the time. How are the 2 little studs wired? I know what goes on the 2 main studs, but how to wire the 2 little ones. May sound silly but I don't to hook something up wrong not knowing, better ask, then be wrong. Thanks Bill

First off make sure you use a constant duty solenoid. A regular ford solenoid wont work it gets hot and quits. Don't ask me how I know. On the solenoid the one small terminal goes to the switched side of the cut off switch and the other if it has two and it's not case grounded goes to ground.

I have a pic of how I did mine but can't get to it right now.

Thanks, should have been more specific, it isn't a regular ford solenoid, but looks the same. I forget the rating, but it was plenty high enough. I will check to see if the other stud is case grounded. That is what I was worried about if it went to ground or made a loop. No instructions in the box. I wanted to be safe than sorry, thanks again.

The one in the pic is from NAPA. You can get them from Advance also.

I must be missing something here... If you already have the alt. wire ran to the battery, and the disconnect switch is pushed, it will kill the juice to everything and the alt won't be able to provide voltage to the ignition because it is on the batt. side of the switch. Therefore the car will shutdown... right?

The solonoid is there so that when the kill switch is turned off the solonoid turns off which turns off the alt. So it wont back feed and keep the engine running.

I had to reword my other post about the solonoid so others may not understand this reply however, there is nothing to back feed. If you contain the output of the alt to the battery and no other circuits, it can't feed anything else, specificly the ignition. Not trying to start anything here, but I don't see the need for the solonoid. Unless the voltage is feeding through the field wires??? I've wired mine like this, however I use a single wire alt. Maybe thats why it work for me. Hmmm...

Your exactly right. I use one also to make sure that all the voltage is off especially if I forget and i'm messing around at the alt.

You can do it either way with or without the solenoid. Ron

Here's the thread from when someone else asked the same question. There are several diagrams. I ended up just putting a circuit breaker between the alt and battery. I used a Ford relay, I think it's listed in the thread, too.
