Eddy valve stem seals

Eddy valve stem seals - 10/13/11 04:40 AM

Can the valve stem seals that come with the Edelbrock RPM heads be used with a dual spring (comp-928)? Or should the seals be switched to a different part? I'm not having much luck finding an answer on any vendor's site.

Thx

we change the seals out. i'm sure we have the ones you need since we do a lot of those heads. i'm not fond of the seals edelbrock uses.

Whats the ID of your springs and the OD of the guide

all eddy heads use a .530 od seal. the id of the inner spring on a 928 is .795 if memory serves me correct

Re: Eddy valve stem seals - 10/13/11 04:50 AM

According to COMP, the ID of the spring is 0.795". I don't have the head apart at the moment so I can't measure the OD of the guide. They are the stock e-brock guides though.

The heads had the 928 springs put on them years ago. According to my records, the seals where not switched. Not many miles on the motor but I am getting oil into the cylinders, and it looks like it may be coming down the guide.

I had some MP seals in my garage, and mentioned to my brother that I could swap them in if the seals were gone. He pointed out that I need to be careful about the seal selection with the dual spring, and that set off a light bulb wondering about the original seals from e-brock.

If the seal is 0.530, wouldn't there be enough room with the 0.795 spring to not worry about contact, clearance, or displacement of the seal?

you might find some of the original seals have come off the guides. they are not a high quality seal and they're pretty big on the o.d.

the eddie seals are big black things. the ones Dan was talking about will be much thinner and better for your application

Had that issues with several of my eddy seals... but I also had sticky valve guides as well until they were all cleaned up/machined... switched to comp cams .530 seals. Perfect fit and no clearance issues with my dual springs for my roller.

OK, thx for the response. Seems I will need to pull the springs off to take a look.

Does this apply to both big and small block?

These are for triple springs
I have even more but this should cover the bulk of what guys are using

For the old school guys
Polymer advancements have come a long way. There are no O.E.M. users of teflon seals.
But to each his own

I think Blue, redand other colors onthe new seals, they seem to seal better and hold up better on a high RPM motor
