O-ring blocks and heads questions

O-ring blocks and heads questions - 09/24/11 04:13 AM

What if a cylinder head has a O-ring receiver groove machined into the heads, and your not going that route. I know decking will take care of it, but what if you dont want to deck out the groove?
The block will not have the groove in this case. I dont see how it can effect the seal as long as the O-ring is inside or even out side the head gasket fire ring?

Mine is used with a copper head gasket, I never thought about what to do if useing like a cometic or 1009 or anyother type. Good question. Seems it would have to be inline close to the fire ring tho, not sure. I will see if I can find a pic of my block for viewing for other guys posting. It may help

When I assembled my 572 Keith Black I removed the o-ring wire from my set of Indy 440-1's and used a standard Felpro gasket.

Been there done that more than once, go for it Make absolutely sure that the head gasket will seal up before the O ring groove, don't have the O ring groove in the combustion chamber area and cross over under the gasket

You could always use copper wire in the O-ring groove. Then file the wire down flat.
