Cooling question - 09/10/11 08:29 PM

Does anyone on here run a partial filled block on the street and are there any cooling issues with it? Im building a new engine and the block has been filled to just above the freeze plugs about 2-3 inches below the deck. I bought this short block already done and was gonna put it in my street car. 400 block/499ci

i wouldn't run it on the street. u will have cooling problems. water can't around the cylinders to remove the heat. oil temp will suffer too. stay safe, seeya.

It can work but you are going to need a good radiator. You will also need a
very big oil cooler since most of the heat will be going into the oil. I bought a water/oil cooler that nascar uses. It removes 80,000btu's and my oil will still hit 220 on a hot summer day.
My next motor will have a KB aluminum block. Should have just done that in the 1st place. Granted my short filled block has been in my car for over 10 years at 740hp and 3,000 street miles/yr
