Alky users what oil viscosity?????????// - 09/01/11 03:06 AM

Just curious guy's, what oil viscosity are you
running with your alky engines, I am planning to do
a litle testing with the stuff, and it's time for
an oil change, so I thought I would kill two birds
with one stone, and change the oil before I ran the
alky, I have always used valvoline 10w30, but I am
going to use a straight 30wt to do some testing
with, so I thought I would see what everyone runs
in their alky engines.

Thanks
Dave

Depends on how quick you trash it with water contamination.

I run mine on alky at 170-180 degrees and it stays cleaner then it did on gas.

20/50 Brad Penn or 20/50 VR1 is what I run.

The 25/50 Pennzoil is excellent alky oil too.

i run straight 40 weight or 50 weight valvoline race oil. always have had luck with them both. just get the heat in the motor and you'll be fine

I use straight 50w VR1 I don't have a vacuum pump, but keep temps around 180/190

Hey Davey i just change my oil with about 50 passes on it and the oil looked real good it`s Brad penn oil 10w-30 it`s the only oil i will run now BRAD got me to use it with my new motor and when RUPERT made my carb for me he said to use it. BRAD gets it for me and it is $55.00 a case it`s green oil and it works good with ALC or any fuel . Ask RUPERT about it is he making your carb? I guess you are racing at the valley this labor day week end will good luck if you are BO-BO

The only change in oil type would be related to not keeping the oil alky/water free. Like these guys say, keep it WARM, don't let it idle rich for extended periods and don't shut it off without getting the temp up to 190 or so. You will need some form of lean out system. Either a ball valve plumbed to the intake for carbs, or a shutoff valve for an injecter. Try and get idle exhaust temp up over 800 degrees, not above 1,000.

Brad Penn 30 wt We use a AED 1050 and I have a lean out valve but don't need it, my carb uses a little under a gal a lap,Oil is always clean. To be honest I sent my 1050 to aed for the alky conversion and I don't act any different than it did on gas it starts the same, warms up the same, uses about the same amount of fuel and is just as clean as gas was.The differences were about a tenth quicker and it hits a brick wall 190 degrees of temp.
