when did petty switch from plymouth to a dodge charger?late 71 or 72? also some have the big stp on hood and some small
any have knowledge on this ?
we have a 71 charger that would like to someday paint like that
dont know wich is more corect but prefer the biger stp design

yeah iv already looked at all the pics but it dont really answer anything as there is several differnt desighns

He was running a Plymouth in 72 like mine .I think 73 is the 1st year with Dodge.

A lot of GOOD reading, but you can skip a lot of years to get to the Plymouth/Dodge switch. Basically, in '71 he was in a Plymouth while Baker was in a team Charger. '72 started with Plymouth and STP and he switched to Dodge mid-season and alternated through the rest of the season. I guess '73 was the first FULL year with the Charger.

I had a Petty replica 72 Road Runner and that thing sure turned a lot of heads.
It had a full Nascar cage in it so it sucked to climb in and out of evrywhere i drove it.
It was street legal but kind of impractcle for driving much
It was Petty Blue without the Red some of the later cars had.
Kind of miss it now,thanks for bringing it up!
