Merge Collectors - 08/23/11 04:01 AM

So below are the headers Mr P speced for me. I am having a problem with collector size. 3.5 inch small side easy to get exhaust adapters for, 4 inch big side and cant find any adapters ie neck downs to exhaust mufflers 3.5 inch, any advice on which to go with.

3 step
1st pri dia 1.986 ... length 18.2 to 19.6
2nd pri dia 2.111 ... length 9.1 to 9.8
3rd pri dia 2.236 ... length 9.1 to 9.8
same collector ... stay on the larger end of spec
all dimensions of tubing are OD with a wall thickness
of .062
collector dia 3.616 to 3.866

More often than not,if a merge collector gives you a power gain over a large straight collector, you are using too large of a size to begin with.

The collector I speced out was a standard straight...
as for a merge collector they are VERY specific to
each engine(sorta like a 2 stroke expansion camber)...
the cone rate dia and length then the small dia and
then the exit cone rate

Engine size? Rpm range?

P body..... do you use pipemax program???

Pipes seem a bit long to me.... Unless large motor and low rpms.

Well.... low by my standards.

Yes I use the Pipemax program.... have been for YEARS...
even when I built headers for Chrysler and had access
to the dyno to do testing

Recognized it right away. lol
I use it too. Have been for along time also. I dont build headers though. just use it to tune my projects.
Larry is a smart guy. and the program works if you use it right.
