Need to go faster

Need to go faster - 08/22/11 02:15 AM

My car runs 9.97 best, usually low tens, need to go 9.30 to beat a Subaru. I need a good system of NOS. Big money on the bet. My car is a small block 12 to 1 compression W2. Is it posible?

at 3000lb you need 225 more hp to go 9.00

Put a nice big block together and you won't need the NOS.

Donīt you think the compression is too high for those many HP with squeeze

i dont think so but i'm no expert. you wanted to know what you needed, i ran the numbers and told you. if you have a stock block, that could be its end so its something to think about

Going from 10.00s to 9.20s is a big move. It is not just having the power, it is getting it to the ground as well. It takes a minimum of 770 hp to break into the 9.20s at 3,000 lbs, and a well tuned suspension/chassis. 725 Hp will get you 9.30s at 3,000. How deep are you in this?

Guys run big compression with spray... just have to have
the tune up right

The suspension is ok but I race with SS springs, it might start spinning. My tires are 33 inches tall and rear end gears 4.89, I have 4.30 and 3.90, I would have to change the gears for this race and I belive the 3.90 for top end. Right now I croos the finish line at 7200 rpm

Re: Need to go faster - 08/22/11 03:10 AM

Yes it is stock block 1971 360. The car weights 2800 with me in it. I only need to go 9.40, this guy is slow on the tree so I was thinking 175 HP off squeeze

I think if you spray that much on a stock block you're gonna end up with a bunch of pieces...

Yes u can do it with a .073 jet in a plate (Wilson I like), and 9 degrees out, with a stock block. I have done it many times. But realize you are running a gerenade with the pin pulled out. It will take that punishment but not alot. It takes alot to set up a proper nitrous system, 2nd fuel system, micro switch, timing retard, c16 feul, not just a 500 dollar kit.

Re: Need to go faster - 08/22/11 04:50 AM

Timming retard is ok, I have a digital MSD.
Second fuel system also ok, but at what pression?
NOS bottle, at what pression?
Micro switch, no problem, but I want it to squeeze on second and thrid gear only. What rear end gears would you recommend?
Also, I run a tunnel ram so I need two plates(what size of jets?)
Thanks for the feed back

Carlos, i ran 12 to 1 in my W2 with nitrous so many years ago, dropped the ET WELL over a second. Id run a Single 4 barrel with the unit to simplify things.

What plate are you going to use? nos cheaters, power shots, a speedtech plate , a wilson, single or cross bar set up? All take different jet setups.

factory block an ss springs sounds like you have your work cut out for you, good luck

Re: Need to go faster - 08/23/11 03:30 AM

Hey Joe, I think I am going to spray 150 shot, I think it's safe only for one pass. Also going to lower the gears to 391 to stay low on the rpm and 30x15x10.5 to lower the rear end.

Don't know, my stock block lived up too a 350hp shot!! That was on two stages a .056 and .082 jet... 82 off the line and the 56 .85 seconds into the run stacked on top.
