clutch - 08/18/11 04:56 AM

I just lost my trans reverse in my baracuda, i rebuilt it myself and had issues with the front pump seal 2x's. I could just pull it and try to fix it again OR i have a A body 18 spline 4 speed sitting in my garage begging to be used. I have a 8 bolt crank in my motor and no clutch or flywheel. I have a lakewood bellhousing, so im good there, and will be putting in my fenderwell headers so linkage shouod not be an issue, thinking of converting to hydro from a ram.
my question is does anyonje know where i could get a decent 18 spline clutch for under 300. I cant seem to find much more than twin disc setups for over 1000. I cannot afford that.
its a stroker 440 8 bolt like i said- if you have a flywheel or clutch you would like to sell let me know! Or if you just have info on where to buy it i would greatly apprecite it.

You could try a dual friction Centerforce setup... Don't know the power level etc. but was slightly to weak in my 750hp 3900lbs street / strip ride couple of years back. On the street is was fine but on the strip it start smoking the clutch.

Tim is one of the "good guys" in the business, devilvers amazing quality, and is always happy to talk through any questions you may have. If you're thinking of getting a new clutch set up or any type of clutch service give Tim Hyatt a call.

so after a ton more research it looks like the only way to get a 4 speed into my car that will hold the TQ of a stroker is to spend big bucks. Which sucks and means the car will be sitting for a while, again...

68 notchback, 540 10.1 to 1 comp, victor heads that have been cleaned, 1050 dominatior on a victor intake, proparts headers, big solid roller cam, 680 lift 290ish duration, 8 3/4 with 3.23 or 3.91 posi (i have both center chunks) tires are 26 x 10.5 which makes me want to run the 3.23 i think.

If your going to run a stick then you will need to put a dana or 9" rear in it with good axles. My 8 3/4 lasted 15-20 passes the first time and 7 the last.

i know i will find my weakest link quickly, and it will most likely be the rear end. but i am working with a dana 60 at the moment. i also do not plan on hard launches. i will be back bracing my rear, to help some, also the small slicks shouldnt create too much traction on ss springs.

I know someone that would be interested in that 18 spline box.
