Dont laugh, I picked it up very cheap.
I know it's old but i might give it a try, just wondered if anyone had used one before and what they thought of it.

It's an autometer playback recorder, wires to the tach and can playback either tach only or with sound.

They work well Several freinds had them and all of them loved them It looks like that one has been in a fire, does it come with a warrenty I have a brand new one in the box that I have never treid, as soon as I bought it VDO came out with thier Extreme playback tach,so I bought it also It works very well One of the benefit of a playback tach that records the entire run is you can see the RPM drop back on each shift so you can see what the converters does better instead of trying to look at the tach for that, the VDO playback will play back in 1/3 real time or at real time, your choice

Thanks Cab, just what i was looking for some real world info.
Picture is deceiving, the condition is fine, i'd rather have the new style but i've decided i've spent enough this year and the ring gear on my converter needs changing due to damage in transit.
I have a 1050 dom to try before the years out and i'm also looking to seal the hood, in search of another 1/10.

Genius!
Now my wife can go to the Service Shop without having to go "It sounds like a ka-clinging, ka-clinging, ka-clinging, whenever I...."

That thing reminds me of a story one of my college auto instructors told. When they first went to a rear engine dragster, they couldn't hear the engine, so they mounted a tape recorder back by the engine. This was years ago, before data recorders.

This is just my opinion BUT if the sound was so magical
why wouldnt Datapac and the other have sound.... I
can go broooom brooom in my head while watching a
play back tach or a data logger down load.... it does
sound like a cute thing though... might have been the
THING in the day

Surely hearing the motor could give an indicator of whether it might be nosing over, or a possible engine problem.
I know it looks a little antiquated but it's cheaper than spending a fortune on a playback tach.
