Cap Auto Products - QA1 - 08/01/11 08:17 PM

As of today, Cap Auto Products (k frames, tubular arms, etc.) was purchased by QA1 (shocks, rod ends, etc.) in Lakeville, MN. What sort of luck have people had with the Cap products? Do the k frames fit well? Anyone use there rack and pinion steering setup? Thanks, Dyno

I have had a set of their upper control arm's for about 4 season's now and just put a set of their coilover conversion lower's on this last winter,, had excellent luck with their uppers but the lowers didn't fit without modification to the factory K member,,had to grind a sizeable notch for them to clear, other than that they seem to be good and beefy.

I run QA1 double adjust on all four corners, love them. As long as the quality/performance of the QA1 does not change I see it as a simple business move.

Re: Cap Auto Products - QA1 - 08/02/11 10:13 PM

have heard bad about both on the net, and know a guy who had total headaches installing CAP k member on his challenger, and my best friend had some of the worst experiences you could ever imagine with his QA1 shocks and their customer service

I know im going to stay away from both, but thats just me

With CAP merging with QA-1 I'm sure there will be some people with a lot of time on their hands - the professional bashers with several Moparts accounts and user names will have to shift their "love" elsewhere.

At any rate - congrats to QA-1 on their new product line, and thanks to CAP Auto for their service to the racing community.

Not bashing anyone specific but when is failure rates acceceptable especially on a critical part that can cause catastrophic injury or death. It only took one fatality and a half dozen Pinto fires to bring Ford to it's knees. In most cases it's not the part that failed but misuse and adbuse.Things always are stretched to the limit, but anything that can cause total loss of control of a race car at high speeds better be held to a higher standard as far as durability and quality. What you build yourself that fails is your problem, what someones builds and sales to the consumer is their problem.I hate when something bad happens and someone commemts"that's racing"
The CAP parts I have seen look great but I know one car that broke a part at speed, lucky no one was hurt and I was told it was more an installation issue that part issue.

Re: Cap Auto Products - QA1 - 08/04/11 03:01 AM

I have seen some complaints about weld quality, but not really many fitment issues. Nothing that would scare me off, as with most aftermarket parts, I expect to check them over closely before use.

QA-1 has done this successfully before, having bought out Hal corp, and his "Stocker Star" shocks, as well as Carrera I believe??

Re: Cap Auto Products - QA1 - 08/04/11 02:49 PM

When they first showed up at the Mopar Nats selling their control arms, I took a look at the welds and said to myself "somebody is gonna get killed running these"! It looked like the typical novice with a new mig. The welds had no good penetration. I believe they originally had some other automobile business such as a junk yard or body shop if I remember correctly. Hopefully they have learned to weld since then.
I am not trying to bash them, I am just letting you know my experience and initial thoughts.

But QA1 already makes shocks. They won't be using the Edelbrock name brand. I thought
QA1 had a pretty extensive shock line but at a higher performance/cost point. Maybe this gives them a more affordable line to add to thier higher lines?

I wonder... is this just as much as expanding a product line as eliminating some competition.

You'd think QA1 with their shock backround would develop thier own line for cheaper. Unless this Edelbrock thing was a pretty good deal?

Maybe all the above in certain amounts?

I say good for Edelbrock too. They went pretty 'wide' with shock, suspension, exhausts, plumbing (Russell), and rims at one point. Maybe they with this leaning down they can concentrate on thier core. And dump stuff that's treading water (or taking on water).
