Re: New banner on my home page - 07/29/11 02:48 AM

It was slow back then, mid to high 10's. I was doing a lot of learning and trying to sort out a bunch of issues with the combo. Moparts was a huge help once I signed up. That was before I was a member here. It never had the right converter and cam for the compression. When I finally took the time to figure out the compression I was a full 2 points lower than I thought. Heads were too big for the motor so a guy that I thought did nice work messed them up by adding a bunch of devcon the intake port floor. The ports went turbulent just over .500 lift. After I got the chassis done I put a lot of time and money into the motor to get the car running like it should.

Messed up -1's

Fixed -1's

Still no compression and low end TQ got worse. Time to add some cubes

Low end TQ problem fixed

Re: New banner on my home page - 07/29/11 03:17 AM

Funny story... I think the best the car went with the small tire was 10.60ish. I pulled the drive train and put it in the corner of the garage. When I finished getting the car back together almost 2 years later with the new chassis it ran exactly the same... 10.60's! And I was about 3-400 lbs lighter. I was not a happy camper after spending over $20K on the chassis upgrade. I messed with it all summer, couldn't get it to run better. I changed the distributor, ignition box, coil, wires, a bunch of stuff with no change in ET.

A buddy was telling me my carb must be junk, here borrow my brothers carb. Well my air cleaner wouldn't fir in his carb. I had to trim the vents on my carb so it would fit. I ran his without an air cleaner and the car went from 10.6 to 10.3... Buddy starts telling me "I told you so.." Well I took of his brother's carb and put mine back on but left off the air cleaner. My carb ran .03 faster then his brothers with the air cleaner off. Learned a valuable lesson that day.... look for simple things first when things aren't right.

It's in my sig, 8.94 @ 151 ( @ 3000#'s) on motor and I haven't tried the fogger. All that would do is make me spend a bunch of $ to update the chassis to 7.50

Thanks Ted! I wish I took more pics when I first got it in 1989.... 13" wheels with hub caps, leaning tower of power with a bench seat and column shift. The old lady who bought it new would be turning in her grave if she saw it now Believe it or not I was the 2nd owner, it was signed over by "power of attorney" which leads me to believe she died. It had 43k miles on it when it got it.. I've been racking them in in the last 20 years, I think it has 44k now I think I over paid, it cost me $1050

you can say that again. even though it's been a few years, i can remember quite well many of the issues that plagued that combination. i think the carburetor issues alone would drive a man to drink. oh wait, maybe that's not necessarilly a bad thing.
i think somewhere on an old computer i still have pictures of the crankshaft and maybe a few other parts.
i was fortunate enough to meet up with Jim at Esta drag strip in Cicero N.Y. for some testing in the summer of, hmmm, wait a minute, how long ago was that?...
Jim and i had talked on the phone and PM's back and forth before so it was great to finally meet him and be there to see some shakedown runs.
if i recall, the car made some 9.4 passes at around 141 that day, albeit still with some carb issues. Jim has put a lot of work into that ride and it shows. it's only with perseverence and patience that the car finally got some 8.x passes. great job Jim

That was back in 05 Dan. It doesn't seem that long ago. I'm sure you have some pics still since many or the motor parts came from you If it wasn't for people like Dan, Dyawne, Scott Brown, Chuck and may of the other people that were posting on here it would never run as good as it does
