flownrs RHS sb!!! - 07/28/11 01:56 PM

Wow i am happy with the numbers since this is in no way a full port but rather a bowl and pushrod pinch porting with some polishing. didnt even touch the shortside.
This took me about 10 hours total!

Ryan J installed 2.055 and 1.6 valves dont know what brand.
These are for a street engine so i didnt care about upper lift numbers.

in ex
0.1 63 54
0.2 136 113
0.3 207 175
0.4 259 218
0.5 296 235
0.6 stalls 242
0.7 stalls 246

These are going on a 408 pumgas 0.525 lift motor.

Crappy pics will come.

If you have read my post about prw rockers my intension was to get more lift but it didnt go that way.

Re: flownrs RHS sb!!! - 07/28/11 04:07 PM

just looked at the flowsheet and apperently they are flowed with a 4.125" bore.
So i guess the numbers are a little happy.
Dont know why he did it cause the last time he flowed heads for me he did it with a 4.030" bore.

Re: flownrs RHS sb!!! - 07/29/11 07:56 AM

does anyone know how much the difference would be between the two bore sizes?
Chambers are matched to a 4.030 bore.

Re: flownrs RHS sb!!! - 07/29/11 09:54 AM

The difference would be minimal on the bore fixtures.........testing on a different bench, another story.

Re: flownrs RHS sb!!! - 07/29/11 10:05 AM

So IMM claim 277 @ .600 with a 2.02 valve and a port job

Shady gets 296 @ .500

.... with a slightly bigger valve but less porting ,

....would I be out of line if I said thats a cr@pload of unexplained difference???

I'm working on a set of EQ Magnum's right now. This will be a fairly serious porting effort IMO so I would be willing to share. Here's some flow data from my last set of EQ Magnum's:

SF-1020 4.03" bore 28" 2.055/1.6 Ferrea's
.1 66.3
.2 126
.3 182.2
.4 227
.5 255
.55 262
.6 267
These heads were not "all-out ported" by any means and were targeted for a very hot stock stroke 360 street build. BTW @ 363 cubes, 10-1 comp, hydro-roller, dual-plane, 91 octane, etc.... 478 hp 490 ft/lbs! J.Rob

Imms arent ported right?
Just a bowl blend?

And these valves are bigger.
Shady didnt do the porting just installed the valves.
I did the porting.

What is the cross sectional area at the smallest point of the push rod pinch? I had always heard that this was the choke point on this type of head. Opening it up there could account for much of the flow increase.

Re: flownrs RHS sb!!! - 07/29/11 12:47 PM

btw this is flowed on the same bench as all my other heads.

And if i ported it for flow at higher lifts i would have lost flow at lower lifts.

The shortturn radius is super big!!!
I guess thats why the good low lift flow, and the stall/turbulence at only 0.550 lift.

Just as a note, my hemi heads flow 310 cfm at 0.4" lift

I havent measured it but i did install sleeves in the holes.
The p-r holes in these heads are bigger than the production sb head.
So i did the sleeves with the same inner dia as a prod head (1/2")
Think the p-r holes where 5/8" on these heads.
I could have made the port entrance a little bigger but since i have like 10 pairs of the standard felpro gasket at home thats what i used.

I don't think it's shady dell (RyanJ) doing the porting, but they were who they were purchased from set up...

different benches, depends on what fixture/clay form was put on the entrance, correction factors for pressure, etc...

I think the .122" bigger bore plate (4.125 vs. 4.030 which is what most guys use for SB heads) probably inflates the numbers by 10cfm due to less valve shrouding.

On a head like this, I'm sure 10 cfm is too much to expect.
W-7 and up with 2.120"+ valves, I would believe.

Re: flownrs RHS sb!!! - 07/29/11 03:41 PM

I absolutely HATE fat short turns! LOL...

I just ported 3 sets of these damn things, with our 2.02 valves and they flow 276@ .500, 285@ .550 and 290@ .600 and then fall back to 287 past .600 lift.
That's porting the pinch area, the bowl and guide boss, and laying the short turn back ALOT.

On pump gas 410's we're making around 520's for HP with either hyd. roller cams or solid FT cams, rpm intakes, 950HP's and small TTI headers. Compression is still only 10:1 or 10.2:1.

We'll be building/dyno testing a mild 360 with our RHS heads with no porting in the next 3 weeks so I'll post our findings since there is very little info about smaller engines with the RHS heads.

These are some good heads.
Best bang for the buck out there in my opinion.
