'66 Coronet 2dr Sedan Weight ? - 07/27/11 05:03 AM

I am looking to find a real world complete car weight.

My hard tops were heavy. What about the sedans ?

These are the shippings weights, not actual weights, but a way to compare differences between models.

'66 Coronet V8 sedan - 3215
'66 Coronet V8 hardtop - 3235

so 20lbs difference

The main advantage to the sedan is not the few lbs less but a more rigid chassis.

Interesting.

Shipping weights are always to light then what the cars really weigh. My 63 is a full body interior B-body that goes 3700 with me in it. I bet you 66 weighs about the same. Ron

I'm building a '66 Coronet base Sedan for SS/EA right now. NHRA lists the weight as 3654.

Again, don't know how much this will help, but my 67 Satellite weighs 3595 without me, 3770 with my 175 in the seat. I'm sure a satellite weighs a bit more than a Coronet Sedan, but their in the same ballpark.

Not much to see. It's an old S/S car that was last ran in the late 70's-early 80's. It was ran as a single four Hemi in AHRA/IHRA. I'm cleaning up the interior at the moment and upgrading to four wheel discs. Going to re-do the roll bar next and then buff the paint out. Probably not going to be real competitive, but that's not the point. I don't want to post current pics because I don't want them plastered all over the internet. Here's an old pic though...basically the same paint, no lettering on it. Black lacquer with glitter, the flames are multi-hue.

Don't forget that all NHRA racing weights in Stock and SS include 170 lbs for the driver So that makes the cars minumum without the driver, ready to run, 3484

The '66 Coronet sedan is my favorite car. Never could find a good one to build(that I could afford). They are the ultimate nostalgia car in my opinion.

I'd think besides the 67 it'd be one of the cheapest mopars around. 66-67 coronets and chargers get no love.

Re: '66 Coronet 2dr Sedan Weight ? - 07/28/11 03:50 PM

I had a 67 Coronet R/T I got it down to just a little over 2900 lbs with a 8 point cage without my 230 lbs. Worst mistake I ever made(I like the 66-67 Dodges & Plymouths best)I gutted the insides out like a round track car(yea I was to young to know better)lexan in the side windows, moved the rear end forward 3"(before I knew how to do it) looked like crap. But it was FAST and WON more races than any of my dragsters. I could run somewhere Friday,Saturday night and Sunday for less than it cost for one day now. I may could find some pictures of it to post but I do not think anyone would want to see them.

PS If there is a good side to ruining a perfect 67 Coronet R/T its how I learned to build race-cars,the hard way.

Wow, very cool, I'm building a stock eliminator car, a 66 Coronet 500, finished up the 383 motor, dyno'd pretty strong. Now I'm going after the body and chassis. Thanks for the picture, looking forward to seeing it finished.

I hope you know that running a 383 is awful hard in stock. The carb is too small to really give some good HP. I looked at the dart 383 combo and could not make it work. I belive your car is a natural "g" car right

You can say that again. I ve been building one for a couple of years and it pretty close for reassembly. I currently have it for sale and i dont even get tire kickers calling

I have removed everything possible to keep the weight down. I expect it to be right at 3000 lbs

(NOT MY CAR JUST A COOL 67 SEDAN)

Re: '66 Coronet 2dr Sedan Weight ? - 08/09/11 04:51 PM

The same combination in Jim Hale's 383 F/SA 67 Barracuda runs 1.00 under anytime he wants to. Weight break for my car is 12.74, making it a natural J car. Key for my 66 car is the "915" 1.60 exhaust valve heads that are now legal for '66 cars. The "516" heads are not as good for stock, which is what the '66 cars were limited to in the past, not so now. My 4131 carburetor was built by Dean Oliver to Stock Eliminator rules, he did an incredible job, plenty of fuel. A stock rebuild of that carb will not cut it, you're right. We did eight or ten pulls on the dyno, and had good numbers. Overall, I think it's a great combination. I'd be interested to hear what you tried with your car, thanks.

when I looked at it, we had to use the older heads. I know dean quite well, he does great work on all carbs. I am trying to find someone here in California to store my F/SA Duster
