Opinions on fuel door - 07/13/11 03:27 PM

I recently installed a fuel door in my deckilid and it has made refueling the car so much easier

The ? is do I leave natural or paint it to match the trunk?

I always thought the fuel door was behing the license plate or on the quarter panel I think you are going to devalue the car by leaving that there

If any of us cared about how "valuable" our cars "could be" we be babying them and hanging out in the restoration forum.

Leave it natural. If you paint it, you have to paint the zeus fasteners too!

Re: Opinions on fuel door - 07/14/11 03:31 AM

For some reason I'm ok with those being natural but the more I think about it the more I think I want to replace the large headed bolts with flush head rivets and paint it.

I've seen it done that way on a few cars and like it but then some cars leave it as is and they look good to.

That fuel door looks like the wrong date code.

Seriously, if it's not painted, it can't chip. I'd leave it.

Leave it as is.... if you painted it blue the next
thing would be the wheels and tires blue..... you
gotta have some contrast

Mine is hydro dipped carbon fiber. Looks nice and was a good compromise between painted or natural.

Funny Raff.

However, If I could find a way for the tires to leave blue streaks and blue smoke during the burnout.

Cant figure the streaks but, throw some blue leds up in the tubs and turn them on at night....Instant Blue Smoke!!

if you paint it blue how will you be able to find it?

Re: Opinions on fuel door - 07/14/11 02:15 PM

I would leave it natural. It gives the car some depth...unless you want it to blend into the blue sea.

Re: Opinions on fuel door - 07/14/11 02:42 PM

Leave it o'natural...If painted it will not stay looking good. Since it will be opening and closing and generally being fussed with it will never stay looking good. It will get scratched, scuffed and chipped. So just leave it be.

Re: Opinions on fuel door - 07/14/11 03:04 PM

Leave it natural. There's already way too much blue on that car. Like the whole thing. In fact, you should just paint it all green.

Re: Opinions on fuel door - 07/15/11 12:09 AM

I like it as is, breaks up the blue

Re: Opinions on fuel door - 07/15/11 12:20 AM

I like it the way it is.
But 408strokerdart is onto something with the carbon fiber.
You could get a little sheet of it and make it look like CF.

Re: Opinions on fuel door - 07/15/11 12:27 AM

I really thought more would like the hidden body colored look to it.

FWIW, I hate the look of CF

Re: Opinions on fuel door - 07/15/11 03:03 AM

You might have to paint the trunk lid as far up that the door is located. Better find some sort of a pad to protect the the trunk lid from fuel can slips. Leave the new door unpainted until it starts looking crappy. It makes the car look like a race car LOL

Re: Opinions on fuel door - 07/15/11 03:29 AM

I actually tested the paint for alcohol splashing.

I took the part that I cut out and poured some on it and just let it dry and saw no discoloration.

I do however use a microfiber towel just in case.

Id leave it as it is. The flush install by the pics could be a little better, IMO.

No Paint for now!

Not sure what your refering to.

The frame of the door does sit on top of the deck lid but even though it may not look like it the door is flush with the frame.

Im sorry Bill. I shouldent be so critical. It does look fine as is.

I was referring to the gap difference from the outer ring flange vs the fuel door panel at the top junction point at the back window.

Does it really matter, No, But ,you asked for opinions. I say fix that and " dont paint it blue" " Or Not"
