Help! I want to stand up, not squat - 07/11/11 07:59 PM

All;
So I just bought a 65 Coronet 383 bracket car, 727 w/ 8 3/4, 4.10 gears and older looking caltrac type bars. It runs high 12s.
When it launches it squats down pretty low instead of the normal Mopar rise up launch. It is supposed to have SS springs on it but owner had the car for 8 years that way before I just bought it. I don't have any pics of the launch.

Any thoughts where to start to look as to why it squats?

Plans are to build it into a nostalgia super stock tribute car with a hemi.
Here's a pic of the rear underside.

Any help is welcome..
Thanks,
Don

If its squatting you need more leverage from the bars...
move the rear of the bar farther away from the center
line of the axle and make sure its planting the tires
EDIT
Also un-clamp the rear of the springs... they could
be pulling
the body back down which is also lifting the rear end

Umm, thats not a ladder bar, and its not a cal trac.
My suggestion to start would be take those things off. They are fighting the natural action of the leaf springs.

+1 That would be a good baseline setup. If they are SS springs, the part number on the older ones, is actually stamped into the shortest segment. Make sure the shocks are long enough.

If your going to put a hemi in it..you might as well take that rear end out and start over. none of that is going to work.

the springs do not look right to me. Maybe its the pic, or my eyes, but there seems to be little or no arch in them. Super stock springs that I have had, always had more curvature than what I see in this pic. And, mine were on a '62 9 passenger wagon, WITH the hidden fold down seat over the rear end.
