Is it possible to make 500+ torque on a pump gas small block, keeping the compression around 10:1? If so, please list engine rpm vs. peak torque and your build combination (heads, intake, comp., cam,etc). Thanks!

Not a problem at all if you have the money. Look in the tech archives for a magazine article that I wrote on the 427 inch small block that we built for a street driven track car.

I built one for John Jadwisiak and his wife Kelli (moparts member rapom). 4in stroke 360, hyperuetectic pistons, with ported production magnum heads with stock 1.92 valve sizes and a short duration (215 degrees) hyd roller cam. It was for his 68 charger with a stock solid fan, PS, A/C and 2:94 gears. It has a chinese air gap intake with an eddy 800 cfm carb.
He ran 13.28 on the first time out with no track tuning (and no Tach) on street tires. I built it with the goal of 12.70s and think that could happen this year. A clutch fan and removed PS-AC belts may get him a couple tenths. Timing, distributor recurve, jetting and the right shift points could cover the rest.
Smooth idling torque motors can be fun and better fuel mileage doesnt hurt either.

I’m not sure of the exact torque numbers (never dynoed), but I would guess my 410 is right around 500 ft lbs with ~ 530 ish horsepower. Here is the combo:
360 block, 410 ci, pump gas, 10.8:1 compression
Eagle 4.00 steel crank, Scat I-beams, Diamond pistons, total seal file fit rings,
ARP main/head studs, Edelbrock heads stage II ported by Ryan J @ Shadydell,
Small solid roller 248/254 duration w/ .576/.582 lift, Airgap, Proform 750 dp
4.10 gears, spool, 35 spline axles, pinion snubber, drag shocks front and rear
727, manual valve body, 8” converter, 28x11.5 Hoosier QTP
3250 lbs, street trim and with 3 inch Flowmasters.
It pushes my car to 10.8's in good air.

im sure it could even be done with stock stroke with a bit of boost.
im pretty sure my stockstroke eddyheaded 340 will make that 500# at a pretty low rpm as soon as the recirkulationvalve closes on the twinscrew.

He did a 410 pump gasser a year or so ago that made 517 peak ft/lbs (IIRC)...and went 6.90's in the 1/8, again IIRC. Bad azz 'lil moder!

I can verify everything Jeff said about my 68 Charger. In a Dart with the right gearing, stall, the engine Jeff put together for me would put down an easy 11 sec. quarter with none of the hassles of a high strung engine.
