Vegas? - 06/27/11 05:15 PM

Looks like we may be getting stationed in Vegas when I get home from Afghanistan in May. How is the racing in the area? The new racecar will be done by then(the old man is busting his hump on it), and will be bringing it and at least one Jr. Dragster with us, not sure what I'm gonna do with the '65 though. We were hoping to get an assignment to the southeast but it wasn't meant to be. Should be getting the official notification in a few days. Look forward to meeting more members from the site...not been on in a while, has been pretty crazy the past few months...

take care,
Curtis

Welcome to Vegas Curtis!

The racing is pretty good here but during the summer months it's toned down a bit due to the heat.
Here's the track schedule:

Check out the PSCA races here, they're a blast.

"moving to Vegas in June"..... ouch!!

I live 120 miles south of Vegas and moved here in a July. Not a pleasant experience for sure! Of course San Antonio is no picnic in the summer either. LVMS has an excellent jr program. Back when I raced they generally ran them saturday morning, and then the big cars ran saturday night on points days. While I've had more "fun" at other tracks, the racing surface and facility/personel have always been imho the best anywhere. I came from a land where pit areas were lined with trees/grass and camping was part of the experience. Racing on the west coast is on par with sitting all day in a wal-mart parking lot. You'll have two national events to attend if you so chose, but better than that is the last Divisional race in the country before Pomona which has a HUGE attendance, and I think a lot more fun to attend. Mopars at The Strip is a good time too...... and the crowd that Jim (moparmanjames) hangs with at the track are good people. Hopefully I'll be up and running this fall.

Well I have been here three weeks so not sure I can answer that. There is actually a god deal of racing here, not sure about the bracket scene as of yet. The PSCA and NHRA are here a number of times. The PSCA is a great organization with many classes to race in. We did attend a Friday night T&T a couple of weeks ago. The DA was 5700' however

BTW two nationals, two divisionals and the ET finals are here this year.

If you guys do PCS here make sure to let me know. Always willing to help out however possible. I know how difficult moving, especially with the military can be.

Thanks guys...Al, I'll be in touch definitely when we start getting closer. Luckily my brother in law is planning on renting out our house in San Antonio, so should be able to keep my '65 there for a while...Really looking forward to getting out there in the '66, should be a lot of fun...
attached is a pic of my '66 from a few weeks ago, my dad has been working his tail off, luckily I have the motor and tranny ready to go for it. He is hoping to get the chassis cert done by the end of August, last I heard he had most of the bars in it for the 25.4 cert and should get some more pictures soon...

"The Strip" is one of the nicest drag race tracks in the country. It is hot and windy in the summer and cold and windy in the winter.
