Harland Sharp rockers and pushrods question - 06/24/11 07:47 PM

After rocker breakage Im changing my Indy rockers for a set of Harland sharps. Heads are Indys 440-1. Do the HS rockers use the same length pushrods as the indyrockers or do I need a new set?

Thanks for any help,
Chris

i used the same push rods when i switched over but i had to add .015 shims under the shafts.that was more due to the adjusters being different.

X2
Put the new rockers on and check them with the pushrods you have.

the hs will require a shorter push rod than the indy/dove

know one will know the right answer except you. Head and block decking makes a diff on push rod length. You can get by with 2-3 threads showing out the adjuster, if more, you might just get by with a set of $40 lash caps...
Just get your new rockers and see.

? when u say 2-3 threads showing r we talking about the threads on top of the rockers or the bottom?

I was @ NMCA in Joliet today. I talked to HS rep. he said $1000 for a set for big Mopar with Indy heads. Not the offset intakes either!
Did they go up or is the show price WAY high. Or is the show rep. HIGH?

Harland Sharps website doesn't show the standard rockers being that high. You can see their retail prices here - http://www.harlandsharp.com/products.htm

I think this guys right. From what I recall messing with HS, Dove and Crane rockers years ago, none of them would use the same length pushrod when I set them up to see which fit my heads best.

I just went thru this exact same swap last year. The HS will require a different length push rod.
I will recommend Smith Brothers push rods while I am replying. Awesome tech help and quick order filling. They act like they want your business. Nice to have good service once in a while.

Hope this helps, Beep

Re: Harland Sharp rockers and pushrods question - 06/29/11 06:05 AM

I may have spoke too soon as I forgot why I was actually changing rockers at the time. I had the pushrods indy sells with the -1 kit and comp roller lifters. Well a few of the pushrods were soft and the ball end of them was grinding off in the lifter cup. After looking at the roller lifter a little closer, I noticed the cup looked like it was too small for a 3/8" ball end. It was. I called comp to verify. So while I was replacing the pushrods I installed the HS rockers that I had already bought to replace the indy /dove rockers next time I freshened the motor.
So I probably spoke out of turn as the pushrod length more than likely changed because of the difference in diameter of the ball end of the pushrod. Sorry I don't remember what the particulars are on the old pushrods compared to the new ones. Sorry for any confusion, Beep

Thanks 440Jim for jarring my memory of why I was swapping the rockers in the first place. Beep

When I was checking my Indy pushrods in the lifters they didn't sit right. I coated the tip with a magic marker then fit it into the lifter and it showed a ring where it was only making contact with the edge of the cup. ???! So then I checked the ball and cup with radius gauges. The cups were 3/8" dia. but the "supposedly" 3/8" dia. pushrod tips were off. Indy has them back and I've ordered Smiths.

FWIW, Smiths pushrods come in .050" increments which is one thread of an adjuster screw.

Just some info on the HS rockers...They use a 5/16" ball adjuster so if your pushrods have a 3/8" cup they need to be replaced anyway.

Or use your Indy adjusters in the HS rockers! Same thread.

Smith bros will make you any custom length as well and you will still have them at your door in a few days.
