you should NOT have a tube in drag radials, i used to run screws but have not in a long time now. I glue them on with the loctite red gasket glue and thats it.....yes they move a lil and usually take a set after moving about 1/4 of the way around, but thats after about 30+ passes

because the additional pressure you run in a radial tire as compared to a bias-ply,, you do not need to screw them into the rim, the added pressure helps to keep the tire seated to the rim

Says Who, I havent had and prob with this setup as of yet, tires dont break loose on the rim and no pressure loss,U can run a slick with out tubes but why would you, If there is a reason to not tube besides u dont need to I would like to no why.If u ask me its redundancy to have tubes, Im pushing 650hp in a 68 B body.

I'm not running "drag radials", as in street legal tires, but I'm running a radial slick. 32-13.60 x 15 phoenix on a 15 x 14 rim.
I run 16.5-17 lbs. No tubes, no screws.
3550 race weight, best of 1.39 60', 9.92 @ 135.

Tires have moved maybe an inch since I put them on 2 yrs ago.

So if the tires do turn some on the rim shouldnt you get them rebalanced?

Mine have never turned, but the car isn't fast. If they turned enough to cause vibration, which I doubt will happen then sure, rebalance them. Lots of tire shops have lifetime balancing

I was on the Bullet looking at what they were doing with theirs before I bought mine, and they were glueing them, so that's what I did. I did have an issue with the tire rotating in the rim once glued, just lack of any real traction.

They are not slicks, and I am now sure after running a set, they do not repeat like slicks and are not great for bracket racing. But if you have a fast street car and they are required for your class, by all means run them. I thought they would be a great dual purpose tire, but I don't like going thru the traps sideways at triple digit speeds.

What the he__ do you run them on to go sideways throught the traps? Topfuel dragster? Wolf has been 4.20s in the 1/8 straight as a arrow, thats with approx 2500 hp. I can understand that they are not as consistant as slicks off the line but once they are hooked up I have never lost traction with them. I will personaly never run a slick again.

Screws on all 6 sets I have been through, but my wheels had holes already. Probably would have anyway. best of 1.29 60 and 100's of 1.30-1.31's.

Re: Drag Radials...Are you putting screws in them??? - 06/16/11 01:35 PM

I'm in the same boat as RonP. Mine are screwed (no tubes) but my rims were already drilled for screws.
I run 295-65 radials on 8.5" wide rims. Mid 9s, 1.32 sixty foot at 3800#.

I've never heard of anyone rumnning tubes in drag radials until I read this thread. I don't see the point, but hey, if it works...
