Whats the going rate for an R3 block? - 04/19/11 06:54 PM

This is not a want ad!
I'm going to be building a small block stroker sometime in the near future and want a good foundation. I'd like to stick with 59* and 340 mains. What is a good price for a new block, who's the best to buy from? Thanks

$3,000 for the block

Then you got to bore it. Just say you want a 4.100 bore. That is .190" worth of boring. EXPENSIVE.

I would not spend that kind of money and still have 59 degree lifters with 1 7/8 lifter spacing unless I was dictated so by class rules. Just My Opinion.

if at all possible go 48*.... I was lucky
when I bought my 48* siamese 9.20 block... it was
new but I got it at the Indy swap meet... I still
had to bore it, cam tunnel 50mm, mains and the cyl
bores.... which they all need... but I only payed
$800 for it

Well I have W5 heads that I'm using. Isn't there a way to use the W5 on a 48*? or do I need to stick with 58. Thanks

Lol I've talked to Ryan so many times the last three years he's probably tired of me kicking tires. I'll probably call tomorrow. I got these heads brand new fully ported(by a reputable shop) for a song I can't give them up. I also don't want to blow all I saved on good heads making them work on a 48* block.

The pushrods will stand a lot straighter with the 48 degree lifter setup. The only clearancing is in the bottom portion of the intake flange of the head. Otherwise there is actually more room when you go 48 degree.

Keep searching the web and you will find them.I have bought two new 59 degree 9.200 blocks, one for 1,000.00 other for 1,500.00.Then save some coin to have them machined.
