New best with out of the box Rons Terminator - 04/18/11 04:11 PM

Finally got my Terminator on my car. Positive results and keep in mind that I already had a Ken Jones alcohol carb on my car.
Previous best 6.225 at 109 in the 1/8th
New best 6.177 at 109.
Only got three good hits yesterday and two were in elimations and lifting. Unfortunately I did a crappy job driving and was ousted both rounds. The Terminator was out of the box using the 90 pill that James Monroe sent me. The MPH was the same which makes me think there is more in it with some tuning but I am solidly .03 faster in 60 ft and about .04-.05 faster at the 330 mark.
Pretty happy with it especially since we added 2.5 gallons of alcohol and gas to the front of the car between the surge tank and the Primer Plus. I chose the surge tank route so I dont have to take my hood off each pass or put a fuel door in the hood.
Really wish I had more data for you guys. Hopefully the weather is good next weekend and I can get to test and tune to make some changes and see if we can make it any faster

Nice keep us updated. Thinking about a terminator myself.

Had an encouraging conversation with James Monroe at KillerRons.com earlier and he thinks there is certainly more in it. One thing I have already found that I like is I can heat it up twice as fast now by closing the barrel valve 3/4 shut. When I say twice as fast, I mean even when I had a lean out valve on it last year I can still heat it up twice as fast and the lean out valve has been eliminated.

Pretty hard to beat the Terminator deal. Do you have a high speed bypass?

That's a nice gain.
Where were you racing?

Eric that is great, three tenths is a huge gain. I have been running a flying toilet for the past five years and don't have any complaints. Listen to what James tells you and your car will be deadly, he is the man when it comes to Ron's systems.

Thats the most important thing i have with the terminator.I only have the cable full open from the burn out to the end off the track. The rest of the time its leaned out big time. This makes it real easy to control eng temp.90 pill sounds about right ,i am running a 90 and egts are only 1150.

James Monroe is very helpful. He got my initial tune very close. You got to love the injection performance and throttle response.

He gave me the same tip about carefully leaning the shut off valve when driving around the pits, and it works wonders for saving fuel, controlling temperature, and warming up the engine in the beginning of the day.

Let me correct my earlier post. I have a 86 pill in it. No high speed bypass. One thing they need to warn you about is doing burnouts. You are guaranteed to smack the rev limited on the first one! I have to start in high gear and gently roll into the throttle to keep it off the limiter. The throttle response is amazing!

What is your engine combo and what nozzle size did they set you up with?

I agree on the burnout! When I dynoed my motor it started to go very fat a bit after peak torque, so I run a fairly big pill in the high speed. There may be some power in it there for you.

X2 where did they start you out at?

I just put my injection system off of my dragster on my Dart last week.

Cant wait to try it if it ever stops raining here in the northeast.

Engine combo is a 416" small block,12.5 compression, ported Edelbrock heads, roller cam, super victor intake, 1 7/8 headers, obviously on Methanol, car has a glide with a 1.80 gearset and 4.88's in the rear.
I will have to get you the nozzle size tonight. I never even looked.

To all the racer's asking about nozzle/pill sizes.
I recommend you get your starting point from an experienced injection tuner, like James Monroe for Ron's systems. Don't just copy some other combo, there are some big variables.

It is OK to look, but don't copy.
Just to show the difference, when I ran methanol in my system it had 0.033 nozzle jets and 0.098" pill, 0-1/2 gold vane pump.

Regarding high speed bypass. I have one, but my combo doesn't start to go rich until about 6700 rpm, which is after the 1/8 mile mark, And it ran just fine without it crossing the finish line at 7200 (prior to gear change). FWIW. Lots of variables here also. But it can be used to change the A/F curve with the right pressure setting and HS pill size.

Re: New best with out of the box Rons Terminator - 04/19/11 05:18 PM

I run a #86 pill with #39 nozzels in mine. I am going to try a #80 pill with #39 nozzels, and next go back to the #86 pill & #40 nozzels to see if I can pick up some ET. And if I can come up with a little extra $$$ want to try some M5.

James Monroe is as good as they come on the Ron's system's to get you a good base line. My Mopar engine seems to like just a little more fuel than the chevy engines.

PS does anyone have any good advice on the timing going from gas-alcohol? Mine made the most HP @ 35 degrees on the dyno on race gas, checked it last Saturday and it was 35-36 degrees I pulled it back down to 34 degrees and it seemed like the engine smoothed out some. Was going to do some T&T for the Big $$$ Bracket Race @ the end of the month Sunday. But when I got to the track, unlike the week before I had no brakes. But @ 3000 and @ idle the engine sounded a lot better with 2 degrees less timing. Don't get the wrong idea it was running great @ 35 degrees.

I agree with 440Jim we maynot can copy each others combo, but maybe we can get some good ideas from sharing our info. with each other.

Re: New best with out of the box Rons Terminator - 04/19/11 11:02 PM

I typically have always run between 26 and 32 degrees of timing on alcohol. Any more than that and it gets very hard to start. Once I get the injection tuned to maximum performance I will see if the timing makes a difference as well.
I would really like to do a back to back same day comparison of my carb to the injection. I have all the pieces in place to do it; just need to find the time to get a long test and tune session on a decent track.

I ran 31 enderle nozzles in a 363 cid with a single toilet and 33 nozzles in my 410.

With a 0 1/2 gear pump I found the smaller nozzle and bypass made more pressure and worked better and I am going to try that approach with my big block and run small nozzles like Jim had with his setup.
