At what power point should I get a trans shield?? - 04/17/11 06:23 PM

My combo is 500HP/540 Ft Lbs... I am running a stock 727 for now. At what point do I look into getting a trans shield or blanket? This is a street driven car for the most part, but I don't want to cut my feet off playing at a stop light or on a backroad!

At the point you value your feet more then the cost of the blanket/shield.....

When the cost of your deductible for prosthetic feet surpasses the cost of a shield / blanket, it's time.

You should be able to pick an expired date SFI one for almost nothing...I threw one away. If you have ever seen a 727 come apart you would run to the nearest speed shop and buy one.

Some of the different shields use 1/4" alum(6061-T6)
spaced off the trans

I got a Lofgren blanket. when i bought mine you can choose between an SFI or non SFI blanket. the only difference is the tag on it. i bought the non SFI blanket and saved alot of money and it fits good

the difference is lofgren was buying RCI blankets(if my memory is correct) cutting them in half and re-stiching them. one had the sfi sticker sewn back on the other didn't. thats what I heard anyway

IIRC 10.99 and quicker is when you need a blanket and a flex shield to race legally. Never actually witnessed a 727 blow through the floor pan but I've seen plenty of pics and it's not something I'd want to experience
That having been said we ran the car deep into the 11's for a season or 2 before fitting all the safety stuff and billet front drums etc. If you are sensible and burnout correct you will diminish your chances but you'll have no control over track conditions. In hindsight I feel I may have been a little foolish but didn't really know any better at the time

Safety first ofcourse..... But how much hotter will the Trans be with the Blanket?

I have a blanket 467hp,510 lbs tq, losing a foot would surely be BAD. Having to listen to my wife tell the story of how my screwing around cost HER a toe/foot, for THE REST OF MY LIFE totally unimaginable. cheap at double the cost. It's a street car.

Use csr shield or a blanket .That TCI metal shield is a piece of crap won't fit tunnel on most cars and doesn't cover bellhousing .

Funny that its said on here whats your feet worth ?
why not the gloves ,neck collar, fullface helmet full fire suit etc ?
How much difference between 11.00 10.99 to be required stuff .
Some stuff and rules are crazy in this sport .
