if running E-85 and not running your car for a month or two. will e-85 go bad and or start eating parts? rubber lines, gaskets?

It will go bad... it will absorb water... water is what
hurts the carb(that causes corrosion on the bare alum
parts)... wont bother rubber like meth... alot of
the carb place put a different gasket on them but
I dont know if its the gasket issue or hole sizes
are different... I have left it in my carb over the
winter and did see a little corrosion the second
year so now I run gas in the system for the winter

As long as you have a good sealed fuel system that will not allow moisture you are fine. I never draind the bowls in my carb all season and never saw a problem. Took the carb apart at the end of the season to fix a leak and all looked brand new. My friend who runs one of my carbs left fuel in his all summer and winter and brought the carb over to me to look at, and looked like the day I put it together.

I would not worry about it on a week over week basis like Methanol but I would drain it over the winter. I used to do it on race gas too. If you do leave it in I would at least fire the car and warm it once a month while being stored if you can.

100% Agree Had no problems this winter, started up 2 weeks ago with help from a drizzle of regular gas then switched over to the E85 in the fuel cell. I did put E85 fuel additive in the fuel cell and ran the motor to get it in the carb.

You have 2 vents on the carb and a vent on the tank...
how can you have a good sealed system

According to Popular Mechanix article on E15 - E85 it can go bad in less than a month or last for a year it all depends on the temp, humidity, and luck, and there is no additive currently on the market that wiil prevent it. Its why everybodys weed eater, chain saw, lawn mower, etc are having their carbs trashed over winter. Pop Mech article.

The only way to keep it for prolonged periods of time
is to keep it in sealed drums... we got it in steel
drums at work and I would store it for over a year
until I/we needed it for testing.... I store it here
in the pole barn for 5 months(over the fall and winter)
in steel drums

There's gotta be someway to store it r the filling stations would be having a fit, however, there has been some cases of people fillin up at a station and it killin their car. Coincidence?

Filling stations have vents also but they use smaller
tanks(usually 2000 to 5000 gal tanks) but they move
the fuel quick enough so it doesnt sit around in the
tank... a production car has a sealed system(injected)
and has a vent/vac cap and a shut off on the vent
(all for emissions)... the cap can allow enough vac
or pressure to move but the vent opens for normal
driving
Also the stations are SUPPOSE to check their tanks
for water on a regular basis

My experience from several years ago...

edit: the pic is from last summer when I finally pulled the carb apart to see why is was running like an edelbrock 750.

The anodized metering block do help... wish I could
get the whole thing anodized

I guess I must be living right. Never have had a problem on my weedeater, mower, tiller, or anything. Even after they set for 2 years. One or two pulls and they run......blame it on something other then E10.

I will have to take my E85 carb apart, its set for almost two years now. Wouldn't run when I tried it last spring. I hope I have time to mess with it this year.

I did not have problems with the metering block passages or the main body. For some reason the ethanol did not like the power valves. I didn't even dip the carb when rebuild it and it runs perfect.

After doing some online research on the corrosive effects of ethanol on aluminum in fuel systems, I don't even want to leave E10 in there for long, much less E85. That sh!t should get drained before sitting around for an extended periods, IMO.

In my situation I was running E-85 for the summer and ran a tank or two of 110 Sunoco through the car before storing it for three years. I have seen power valves that sat in empty carbs rust a little but never corrode like the picture shows.

The thing with your PV... that corrosion is not on
the fuel side... I dont know what was attacking them
other than moisture

It was FULL of corrosion in the well...way worse than the outside. I'll see if I have any more pics of the blocks after I pulled the power valves. Hard to say...

you could have have fuel slosh over the vent at the
top... that goes into the bowl but I thought the gasket
sealed off that PV chamber(could be wrong) and if there
was fuel laying in there it would absorb water
EDIT
thats the same place I had some(no PV)

Interesting...I am not blaming what is in the pic for E-85 for sure. It just seemed strange to be but my experience is limited compared to many on this forum.

A lot depends on the climate you live in, but that being said, no two ways about the fact that it has an affinity for water, and that makes it corrosive - period. I would not leave it in my $700 carb for a month ( much less over the winter )without running it. Gas stations - ALL E10 and E85 tanks will have some amount of water in them. If the tanks are not sticked for water and the water sucked off regularly, the water level gets to the bottom of the tank pickup, and guess what you get. Newer tanks ( even E10 ) have electronic monitoring systems just for that purpose. It will reek havoc on fuel injectors also - don't ask me how I know!!!
