Rear Truck Chassis Opinions, box or X brace - 03/25/11 07:04 PM

Looking to stiffen up the frame a little on my truck with the new motor going in. Looking to put down about 700rwhp so not sure how far I need to take the Chassis. I already have an 8 point roll bar in it that will get me to 10.00, which is about where I want to be, should be able to hit 9's pretty easily. As for the Chassis, it is boxed from the factory all the way to the end of the cab then it goes to C channel. So should I have a couple of Chromoly X braces put in or have the frame boxed in. I attached a couple pictures of what is in there now. The stock brace that was over the stock tank will be taken out when I go ahead and do the rest.

This is an older picture, but shows the brace that is going to get cut out well.

Wish I could take credit, but my wallet is the only one that did anything on that.

Do a search, Lenny has some great pics.

X4 on the x-bracing, but make sure the frame is square, parallel, and not twisted to begin with.

Makes a difference which way your trying to control
movement.... if you put it as a horizontal X that will
control fore and aft(racking movement) but will do
very little for vertical movement... thats when you
need a different plane to control that force... look
at a dragster... they have a bridge network on the
side rails with a angled brace in every square to control
the rail from fore and aft racking, that whole thing
controls vertical, then they have one or two X braces
to control the two sides from racking.... the magic
work in chassis building is triangulation

Triangulate ever 90 degree cross member connection in a horizontal plane.

Ok, that makes sense. Thanks.

If your talking behind the axle you normally want to
control the fore and aft(racking) movement..... I have
a special issue with the car I'm building for my drag
week car... I will tow a trailer... so in my case I
need to bridge the back section(behind the diff) to
have enough vertical load carrying and also put a X
back there to control the back from side to side movement
so it doesnt buckled the quarter panels
