Looking for tips on ZEX install. First time user... - 03/24/11 05:40 PM

I just picked up a ZEX 100-300 perimeter plate with Edelbrock Fuel/Nitrous and purge solenoids, NOS remote bottle opener, ZEX bottle, bottle warmer and blanket from a buddy of mine. Before I install it "In the GTX for now" I would like to know what kind of setups you guys are running and what your oppinions are regarding fuel delivery, timing etc. I plan on giving ZEX a call to discuss details with them but would like to know general rules of thumb to prevent dumb rookie mistakes. This will be my first time using nitrous so any input or tips are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The biggest dumbest rookie mistake you can make from my experience is a nitrous system that allows you to hit it too early, and allow any kind of fuel pudling in the intake. BOOM.

There are currently pieces of my intake manifold orbiting earth up alongside the interenational space station.

play it smart and read about nitrous systems in general and the various accompanying safety pieces like rpm window swithes, hobb switches and the like.

There was a great piece of equipment that I am unsure they still make called the nitrous mastermind. Jacobs ignition made it and I loved it.
I believe they were bought out by accel though. It had rpm window settings, timing retard, rev limiting and a few other things built in.
Great litle box it was.

I have been running the juice verry successfully for years now. The main thing is that you need to retard the timing 2 degrees for every 100 HP of juice. The second is that you must have fuel delivery. Remember it is not the nitrous that makes power it is the added fuel. The oxygen in the n20 will allow that fuel to burn. One more thing is to never dead head the regulator that goes to the gas solinoid. This is very important as the reading on the guage will not be correct. I use a #3 an fitting for a return line off of the inlet to the gas solinoid. Cut off the end of the flare, drill out the fitting so you can install a #32 size jet from some old fogger unit. This will allow just enough fuel to bypass the regulator so you canset it to the desired pressure setting. This is cheap and it works.
I have a 9 to 1 forged piston 440 in a dart. Small cam, street driven and it runs only a 12:02 off of the juice and a 10:50 on the juice. I have put over 100 pounds of juice through this motor and it runs like new. Total timing is set at 32 degrees, fuel pressure is set a 6.5lbs.

Sorry to sidetrack here. Have you run that dart at fontana? Looks familiar
