Strange front brakes, do they mount in front or back?

Strange front brakes, do they mount in front or back? - 03/23/11 02:53 PM

I've got a set of Strand 4 piston caliper brakes on my wife's 1968 Barracuda. I picked them up used from a guy that went to a tubular front end so I bought his whole front end set up, torsion bars, k-frame, upper and lower control arms, steering box and those Strange brakes.

So I just pulled them off and mounted them the same way on my wife's car, in front of the wheel.

Recently someone told me they were supposed to be mounted on the back, behind the wheel. I haven't even looked to see if it was possible but I thought I'd just as Moparts? Maybe it's different on different cars, as he has a 63 Doge 330...

I just bought the Strange brake package for my struts
and they will mount front or rear... I'm putting them
on the rear to stay away from the steering arms
with my rack type steering

I just finished putting a set on my Dart Sport. Using the Later spindle they mount on the front. Not sure about the older spindle.

Mounting them up front usually provides for a cleaner routing of the brake line. But it really doesn't matter as long as everything fits and (most important) the bleeders point up.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I guess I won't worry about it then. They have bleeders on top and bottom so that shouldn't be a problem. They've worked great for the past year just thought I'd ask.

As long as the arrow on the caliper points in the same direction as the wheel when it's going forward it will be fine. The pistons in those calipers are different sizes to keep the pads wearing straight.

Wade,

Ours are on the front, no problems.
