Road Race Milodon Pan - 03/17/11 07:45 PM

Has anyone tried one of these in a big block A body? The pan is a Milodon 31580. I have smashed the deep sump pan for the last time, I hope....

I have pics of one installed in an A-body with DC type BB spool K-member.

It is Mike Mosely's 68 Barracuda out of Texas.

It's a spool type K-member. Those don't have the pan width clearance like the original big block biscuit motor mount K's have. So you probably will not have to modify an orginal BB A-body K frame as much as the one pictured below. Or might not need to modify at all.

The notch we made developing the new small block stock height pro-touring/road race pan was to fit the spool type 73-76 A-body K-memmbers. Very similar deal to the big block DC spool mount K-members. The big block and small block Milodon road race sump is the same width/basic stamping. Just the big block one is a little longer.

Do these pics help??

Thanks, that does help. My original Direct Connection big block K-member has been moved forward one inch, so it might fit with no changes. Now I just hope the drag link doesn't interfere in the rear. The motor is in on a motor plate with the motor mounts removed.

The drag could very much be an issue with the motor moved back 1". I'd guess a good chance of it.

Looks like I wasn't very clear. The motor is in stock location, but the suspension and K-member are forward one inch along with the drag link.

Still drag link it 1" closer to pan, correct? The back of the Milodon pan is almost where a stock pan is. If you run a stock pan with your setup does the drag/centerlink hit the drain plug when at full turn?

You may be able to cheat with the www.firmfeel.com longer pitman/idler arms. But they may be too long for your headers. Even though when you go to full turn the pitman and idler would come very close (probably hit) to the back side angle of the pan.

I've never run a stock pan in the car. It has the Milodon with a drag link hole in it and has since the early 80's

Probably will have to do some fabricating to get that pan to fit. It's a race car. The motor placement of your car has been changed to it's all educated guesses at this point.

Maybe the longer pitman/idler would help. They are not cheap. But I doubt it with the sweep of the arms to pan side clearance.

Might just have to cut the sump off and move it 1" forward.
