pit bike fee...More B.S.

pit bike fee...More B.S. - 02/28/11 11:31 PM

New pit vehicle regulations are being implemented by NHRA. A divisional pit vehicle registration will be required for each pit vehicle. The fee will be $10 per year, per pit vehicle. This fee will allow you the use of the vehicle at any Division 5 track. With the $ 10 registration fee you receive a registration sticker signifying you are registered. You will be registered on the NHRA Division 5 website for all tracks to see. This registration is proof that you are responsible for the pit vehicle. Registration for the pit vehicles will be in the tower

My track does it also for Div.1, however if you sign up for Points and register your pit vehicle early enough theres no charge.

I'm pretty sure they've been doing that in Division 3 for a few years already.

Only time/place I've ever seen anything like that was at the Jr Dragster National events. Both the ECF and the WCF.

Never been to any national or divisional events W/ the big cars or ever heard anything about it from any of the tracks I've been to.

i believe we have been required to have ins for some time
the problem has been kids on them flying up down everywhere people
getting hit and hurt on them , it is a liability, bad enough when
you see grown ups drinking and driving them, watched a guy at monster mopar get hit by a sp truck thought it was going to kill him , tore up front of the race truck , not paying attention
everyone sees the issue but will not police it themselfs , so they (nhra/ihra/??tracks) have to do what we dont ,

Glad I dont go to any National or Divisional events
thats just BS..... I've never had to worry about registering

Unfortunately in todays society it is the norm to just give the kids the keys to the pit bike, golf cart, 4 wheeler and let them run. It is a big issue at RT66 because the place is sooooo big. Not only kids on motor vehicles, but skate boards, bikes, roller blades, and talking/texting and paying no attention.

It's especially bad when they start hot lapping the cars and guys tend to be going too fast on the way to staging.

I know kids will be kids, but parents really need to pay more attention to them.

its not just the kids, i cant count how many times i had jump out of the way when the so called "pit crew" was hallin a$$ goin back to the pit to meet the car.

If $10 is going to break anyone who races at the tracks there in poor shape anyways....
But my thoughts also this might also cut down on the kids, and general idiots flying through the pits causing accidents, personal damage also.
I have had several close calls at my local tracks with kids riding out not looking people driving in the middle of the return roads or pits, not having enough brains to think hey... "I might not be the only person in the World out today"
I simply wish for stricter rules on pit bikes and drivers. This coming from someone who knows and have experienced first hand what a dummy can do at the track.

I believe most tracks, if not NHRA has a age restriction on driving them .It starts with the owner of them and who gets to drive them ?
POLICE your own ---- .Then it should be the security at track to enforce their policy .
This will be hard to enforce if your from out of town or another sanction .
Really the fact is that pit vehicle should or could have insurance on it .
I'm insurance poor ,but I just put full coverage on my 2007 ranger with $300,000.00 liability for $134.00 a year .
4 wheelers golfcarts are cheap to insure .

Your right, its the principle. Some may say, "its only 10 bucks", well it is now. How about next year when NHRA execs are sitting around figuring out how to increase revenue? Chassis stickers, License, Oil down fees, nat event entry fees, pit vehicle fees.... just something else to hike up in the future.
This topic has no easy solution, problem stems from the fact that there are lots of "dummys" at the tracks and just like out on the roads, you have to be a defensive driver, no matter what the vehicle. Now throw in the facts that people walk around at the tracks not paying attention and in the middle of the roads, cars have scoops and limited visability, the aforementioned intellect of some of the racers/ cart drivers, and then throw in some adrenaline....people do some stupid (four letter expletive). Yes, there needs to be some accountability, but money is not going to have any effect on stopping this. Tracks need to police the pits with a no tolerance policy. People driving cars or carts too fast-they're out, underage kids driving your cart-they're out, burnouts in pits-they're out, etc... You cannot make people smarter, but you can make them adhere to the rules.

My on the fee is ,that if they are using it to benefit everyone at the event, like insurance if someone hits your car that shouldnt be on 1 then I would not be opposed. But if its just to gain more $$$ for them then kiss my hynie, take it out of my entry!!

Every penny adds up and at the end of each race or season just count the dollars it cost to belong to a "non-profit"organization.I understand it cost money to operate a large organization and if it's a private business then everyone should be compensated for their time and effort but most "non-profit" have successful people that volunteer their time to act as head administrators or sit on a board of directors for free or a nonimal token fee.All administrative cost should be for the workers the physically keep the wheels turning. If their paying the top people compensation similar to the private sector then they should not be a non-profit organization. If we have to pay fees for everything to an organization then they should be taxed and contribute to to our economic base like everyone else not using their exemption status to fill anyones personal pockets. If it is truly a non-profit organization all our contributations should be voluntary. In my eyes a true non-profit should be assigned to organizations like charities and health organizations.Churches, schools, hospitals and others are some of the biggest and richest businesses and should also pay their fair share, then maybe our economy might be in better shape.
I don't mind paying as long as we benifit from our dollars, but other than having tracks to race at I see no benifit.Everything at the track is about making money and that is great,so they should pay their share just like any of us.If I'am offbase here, please someone tell me why a sanctioned dragrace association should have a "non-profit" status?

Ten bucks is WAY TO CHEAP to charge per year for for people to dump there kids for the day.

state min age restrictions and charge accordingly.
per event.

A good movie and jrs. busy for the afternoon?

At least $50 buck per event...

Tom Compton makes over $700,000 a year. There are a lot of salaries within NHRA that we would envy, so maybe that's where the profit goes...
I don't have a pit bike, I just gimp around; but if I had the money, I'd bring in a couple of motorhomes and call them my Tech Center and my Hospitality Center, just to see the reaction I'd get from the track.

Depends on the track, but some of the tracks I have been to, if track personel see a pit vehicle with no sticker, you park it, right then. Next time your out the gate.

As far as getting nearly run over by pit vehicles.....now I know there are some idiots on pit vehicles, but there seem to be far more idiots walking around in the way. These are pit "roads", this ain't the mall, the park, a car show, or anywhere else you go to take a leisurely stroll, or where pedestrians have the right of way. I am trying to get back to my trailer to make another round...STAY OUT OF THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD and try watching what is going on around you.

I had a guy stick his heel(he was beebopping across the pit road on a long 45 degree crossing, I really don't know how his heel got under the front bumper ) under the front bumper of a S/G car I was racing at Pomona one year, what a dough head If it was up to me there would be no spectators allowed in the pits, especailly good looking females , unless they where with a car

I agree to a point, but those "idiots" walking around are called race fans and with out those "idiots" the tracks, venders and manufactures would suffer economically. The "idiots" bring "pure profit"to race venues and the boost the economy of the host communities.
Having attended many races, other than young kids being allow to act stupid on pit vehicles the most dangerous aspect is racers travaling through the pit areas at high speeds and sometimes not paying attention to people traffic.

Thats right BG spectators that this sport craves and does a piss poor job to get them their .

Damages to race cars ,pit vehicles are hard to recoup against another racer ,spectator ,etc on private property .
I believe racers should be more atentive we have a moving ,high HPs toys also .And some racers fly through the pits to hot lap or they WON,LOST that round.

Just as out on the road defensive driving their also .
I also report people all the time if I see them .
I could wreck my own stuff ,without their help .

I race at Brainerd International and they have been charging $10 per pit vehicle for a couple years. Everyone pays and there is still pit vehicles flying all over all hours of the day / night but it better then not letting us have pit vehicles at all. If you have no sticker or you are doing something wrong they take it and you pay to get it back when you leave.

with Montie, idiots walking on the Pit Road needs to be stopped!!! If thats the only Race-Fans we can get then we don't need any Race-Fans(HARSH but TRUE).If they want to ramble around let them stay on the spectator side not in the pits.I also think the pit vehicles should only be allowed if you have a race car(and you are racing)would not mind everyone having to have their car # on them.BUT NO FEE charged for having them.
I also think its up to US RACERS To Help the tracks Police in the pits. There is more of us than just 2 or 3 and us Racers know whats right or wrong. If we see people doing wrong and say nothing we are just as Guilty as them.Racers lets be Men and take our tracks back, before it gets worse!!!

You're probably right on the $10 thing. Not sure what the answer is, but it is definitely a problem that needs to be addressed - by the track owners. I know my old home track in Il had a pit speed limit of 10mph, and they inforced it - and brought it up on the PA often during an event. Just seems that there are so many more running around than there ever used to be. It's almost becoming a prerequisite if you have an inclosed trailer.
