unless your engine was inside the tool box it has no meaning.

When I had my new mega block temp cycled to stess
relief it it was going to 1000* for X minutes then
the temp is reduced to a lower point then X minutes,
goes though it for about 2 hours or more.... so if
there wasnt any coolant in it it should be fine
BUT you would need to have the line bore and cam
bore checked to see if they are still in line....
you can have the block pressure checked in the
coolant areas for a crack
EDIT
The biggest factor would be when they put out the
fire.... if you block was hot and they hit it with
a water hose.... its TRASH

What on earth would make a tool box melt? How did the fire get so hot?

as for the block all you have to do is measure it to see if its OK.

It was hot well over 1000 deg easy. no comparison to a stress revealed 500° control environment LOL.
And what makes it worse the fire department shows up and starts to spray cold water on very hot surfaces and any metal it hits will twist like a pretzel or just bust or crack.
It may or may not have been that hot where your stuff was at, you might get lucky, I would imagine it will be wet and look like crap anyways.
Im running a set of pistons from a machine shop the caught on fire. The pistons didnt get damaged other than black corrosion and nicked up some... Just had to clean them up free the wrist pins etc. But they mic'd fine..

Good luck

I would say it is a total loss with only knowing the few specifics you mentioned. The block could be ok, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
