pinks, more comical than competitive

pinks, more comical than competitive - 02/22/11 02:48 AM

I like to watch it for the hotrods, but tonight they had these evenly matched OK, a 920 hp gutted out chevelle sheet metal dash, heads up with a 2009 600 hp hemi drag prepared challenger. Its almost like we don't want a mopar to win.

I think that's why the network pulled the plug on them for this year. I like passtime better anyway.

yes I like pass time also. Me and the wife guess it the times.A top sportsman type heads up would be good.

Re: pinks, more comical than competitive - 02/22/11 03:55 AM

It was a decent hot rod show til they got all weird and started scheming the way they picked the field. They would call it a 9.90 class and most of the cars would run 10.30's. That's what they did at Norwalk, and about 4 of the final 16 cars were Chevy Vega's. Did they think people wouldn't notice this stuff?

I agree, passtime is much better. And so is NHRA Unleashed.

Re: pinks, more comical than competitive - 02/22/11 03:58 AM

everyone can say what they want
pinks all out done more for this sport
in the last 2 years than any other organzation
has ever done
they put you on tv gave away thousands of dollars
and tools / tool chest, they put shows on everywhere,
and they packed the tracks they where at,
so i have a hard time believing that pass time is anywhere better
but they do at least put you on tv ,
but pass time cannot hold a candle to pinks all out
peroid!!!

Re: pinks, more comical than competitive - 02/22/11 04:33 AM

well I glad to hear you say so I thought It was just because im bias to mopars but, out of 500 cars to show up for a pinks event and no mopars in the 16 finals or two or three events and a mopar finially show up. You start to think they are real bias. I will have to say over the last year or so I did see a Mopar or two win it all. although one was Grimlin

Re: pinks, more comical than competitive - 02/22/11 04:46 AM

Pinks all out is a absolute joke - how many times have you seen the in-car video where the car in the other lane is falling back, then five seconds later it's pulling ahead and takes the stripe. How about how they disqualify some poor guy saying he went 3 tenths too quick on his second of three passes in the final - ridiculous. I could go on and on. The only guy on the show who knows anything about cars is Ken Herring. Pass time is much better, love to see the cars, guess the times and compare to my heap.

and you guessing the time its gonna run compared to youre heap!
is better than pinks all out , PINKS ALL OUT
brought more fans to the races than an nhra nat event
brought the spotlite to hundreds of racers ,racer who at any other time would have never gotten into a national tv exsposure if it wasnt for PINKS PLEASE TELL ME
pass time was better

Re: pinks, more comical than competitive - 02/22/11 05:34 AM

I watched it for the cars but, it did seem to be cheby bias. If you let me pick the cars I can always have 8 mopars 3 fords and a chevy. However your chevy fans would stop comeing. Mopar has got use to #3.American. Hey I don't want pinks to stop Im just saying their bias to chebys. not execute them and I enjoy watching pass time also. If pinks competition was better they wolud be better. for example; have a outlaw heads up show. For the TV audience describe what outlaw racing is about. You probably know but some one setting at home don't. Those cars are fun to watch. OR a real Super Stock race. explain the reason for classes put it in a two hour segment,Ill watch or maby be in the show. Nhra is all about John force and funny cars and thats OK with me if thats what NHRA is about. IM NOT OUT AFTER nhra OR pinks thanks pinks for the fun it would have been more fun to see a few more MOPARS.

Pinks All Out is not about racing - it's about DRAMA. Similar to all those other popular UNreality shows on tv. I can apprecieate the "exposure" that the racers get from the show but - Pass Time is better...

Re: pinks, more comical than competitive - 02/22/11 05:48 AM

I watch it for the cars...the commentary drives me crazy...Don't they know car guys are watching this show and 90% know more about racing than the guy explaining it to us? I would give it a shot if my ride was on booze..but the hot lap thing would kill me on gas. Truthfully...and not to sound like a jerk...I think I would do quite well on the arm drop thingy since I race Protree quite often. But then again they rarely have a high 8sec low 9sec field..

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh...............come again ?
Most of the time when watching Pinks , I see a cluster of fans crowded around the camera and mostly empty bleachers when they are going down track.
Yes , they gave exposure.
But if the price is having to put up with that imbecile Rich Christiansen , I'll have to think about it.
My dog knows more about cars and they could not have come up with a worse host.
He loves the drama more than the cars..........bottom line.
And judging from the tone of your posts on the topic , it has some appeal to you also.
You carry the torch for them like you're on the payroll.
If you love the show , fine.
But don't make it out to be more than it is.
I don't think it has changed the world for us at all , other than throwing some money and tools at a few people.
It certainly isn't a recruitment poster.

Re: pinks, more comical than competitive - 02/22/11 02:06 PM

I hate to tell you this but the 1st Bristol show and the Atlanta show outsold the nationals for a one day event. At Atlanta it was standing room only 4 deep on the fence! I have run Pinks All Out 3 times and had a ball all three times. We even made the Atlanta show. The first two years were cool and it was real racing then they went stupid, they went to 32 and 64 car fields and other gimmicks they lost that close racing and tried to script it. In Atlanta the field was 10.30-10.36 truely a heads up race, The first Charlotte race was like 9.70-10.20 and 64 cars. To me that was the beginning of the end. I wish they would bring it back with Nate, his brother, and Ken, plus the original format.

Would that include the new trend of racers making the field then using a 50 or so shot of NOS to give them an edge, but still stay within the 2 tenths run out?

Never went to Pinks, never wanted to. Rarely watched the show.
Was personally invited to Pass Time by the producer of the show and glad I "passed" lol
I know guys that sat in 90* heat at Bradenton for 3 days to make one pass.
Here's an idea. Go make the final round at any Nitro Jam event and your on TV! It's that easy!

The race I lost was .0015 at the stripe. you would have to be pretty good with the button to do that. If you pay attention to my post you would see I was against all the later BS. There was no real set "run out" time at first, Nate and Adam used their better judgement on the conditions and what should be allowed. Watch some shows from the 1st seasons, 2 tenths would get you a ticket home!

It's that way on just about every show that has something about a mopar. They ALWAYS stack the deck against the Mopar. Look at Chop Cut Rebuild. They took a stock stroke 426 Hemi 1969 Charger and pitted it against a Supercharged 2009 LS7 corvette. Then on top of that they had to [Edited by Moparts - Family Friendly Site - Keep it clean] host drive the Charger. That's about as stupid as it gets.

Re: pinks, more comical than competitive - 02/22/11 06:51 PM

To me any form of Drag-Racing is better than no Drag-Racing at all.

The more TV coverage it gets, the more people who will come out and support Drag-Racing.

Look at Nascar TV coverage Day and Night. Go to a Nascar race the tickets are double what it cost at a NHRA track. If you get there on a Saturday or Sunday its gonna cost you $20.00 to park and then you will have a mile walk. And the Spectators are not car people like the NHRA races have. They all are there to see their favorite driver. Unlike NHRA where there is only John Force,Nascar show case's all of their drivers and the fans have more than one to pick from.
We need to win all if not most of them over to NHRA & IHRA.

Showcase any Drag-Racing..be it Pink's Pass Time, Sportsman its all good.

What brought all this on? It is a matter of opinion and mine is that Pass Time is a better TV show. I could be wrong but I believe most real racers have a hard time stomaching Pinks. When Pinks came to my track I could not participate, but I would have loved to. I do not race for "exposure" but I have been fortunate enough to get ink in National Dragster, MCG and Muscle Car Review all without Pinks All Out - and believe me, I am a nobody...and definately not jealous.

Relax dude.

The driver of the Challenger and the Barracuda that was in the 32 are my kids and I drove my 74'G/SA Challenger. So having been in one of these things I will tell you it was a great time,a little too much drama, but a lot of fun.As for air time both of the kids have won races both NHRA and IHRA,David was runner up in stock at Indy 08',and on Pinks we got ten times the exposure. The shots of the car and all the talk was good for us and the sport in general. That said I didn't care for all the drama and the fact that you don't get a time slip once you are in the show, you can read what you want into that, and I asked for ours and they would not even tell me what the car ran,as the Challenger only had 8 laps on it and I needed the data.Even with the bad the show was a fun time and will be missed by a lot of racing fans.BTW this was a true mid 9 second field the Challenger ran 9.59 and the Cuda'went 9.49

For the love of all things holy..............relax dude.
I can just visuallize the spittle coating your screen as you type.
It was a T.V. show ....... and not a very good one in my opinion.
It certainly wasn't the salvation of our sport that you make it out to be.
Would it have lasted as long as it did with out the drama ?
I doubt it.
The focus was making money.
Not racers making money.
Producers making money.
And if they could exploit the developmentally disabled in foot races to cash in , they most certainly would.
Me thinks you need to go put down some laps.
Or a couple dozen cocktails.
Some kind of release from the spell Rich put you under.
Trust me when I tell you...........the world will keep on turning and there will be more races.
Lots more.

I think us Drag Racers are sometimes our own "Worst Enemy".
If they give us something anything,We Don't Like It.
I can't run in Pinks or the new heads up classes that seem to be a Big Hit on TV (have a Dragster),might could make it on Pass Time. But I still like all of them, beats no racing.

The chevy guys have more parts for their engines than they know what to do with, and more being built everyday. The ford guys even have more parts than us Mopar guys now.
They make something to try and help us MOPAR RACERS run faster, the 1st thing we do is find "Fault" with it.
With that being said I've been Racing "MOPAR" for 20+ years and will race them for another 20+ years

PS But everyone does have the right to their own opinion

I soo tired of the belly aching of the lack of mopars at pinks or what ever tv drag event. I have a mopar. I live in the midwest. Every track I've raced always had more chevys and fords then mopars. It's just a fact that GM and Ford sold more cars then mopars. Do the math! If more of the other brands was sold and in some cases by a large margin, doesn't it make sense that more of that brand will be represented at a drag strip. A lot of us in the Mopar community have made a point that we did not want to see ourself coming and going (chevelles, camaros, novas, mustangs, etc) so we bought mopars for that different styling/performance reason. Well the flip side of that is your representation at car shows, drag races will be less (unless it is mopar sponsored). I love my mopar but I know I will be out numbered by the other brands. Plus I do find the number of people who want to race their mopars (at least in my area) is not as great as the GM, Ford counterpart. Some are soo concerned with car show trailer queens/or think that it is too rare (pink exterior with brown interior) or too precious to race. I enjoyed pinks. It was great when the few mopars that were present won or went rounds. I can get past Christensen's ego (No worst than some on this site). He is putting on a show for entertainment with drag racing as the hook. The bottom line is the first car to the finish line wins. With all of that said, I'm putting on my flame retardant suit.

I enjoyed the "Pinks All Out" myself... every time I
tried to get in it was full... when it fills up in a
matter of 10-15 seconds that says something about it

I couldnt stand the first version with the games about
you give me 27 car lengths....that was BS

I enjoyed the All Out before they changed the format. Also met a lot of members at Gateway when I went down there with Lonemopar and bad1970dust.Ol Jimmy got his 5 minutes of fame when they did a feature on his Duster!! When the Armdrop live came to our home track,I got in as an alternate in the 11 second class with the 446" moder.. Won first round and got nailed by a nitrous crotch rocket second round.. I was running 11.30s and the guy that won the class went 10.90..Quite a variation there!! But we all had fun! I hate to see any drag racing show go down the toilet. I have said it many times...Rich C. has done more for us sportsman racers than any sanctioning body..Even though he don't know crap about cars!!
