29x9x15 what rim size ? - 01/26/11 06:04 AM
Budget build....anyone ever run a 29x9x15 slick on a stock steel rim ? Rim says 15x7 from a 70's Dodge van,but measuring inside lip to inside lip measures 6.5 inches.
I know 15x8-15x10 is optimum, just would like real world experiences.
going on 69 big block,4-speed

How does the tire measure just sitting? Real flexible side-wall ? I would think a 6.5 rim would be fine.

You really need at least an 8" rim to allow for running sufficient pressure to keep the tire stable on the big end. Otherwise, you'll be running a lower pressure to get a decent "footprint" that will get loose at high speed.

9" minimum, 10" preferred. I wouldn't even consider 7".

Ive run them on 8 1/2 Centerline Auto Drags! Going on my third season, never a problem!

if you want to stick with stock style check out wheel vintiques at summit.
I got a pair of 15x10 cop wheels to go with my 15x7 on the front. There heavy but I like the way they look.
They have lots of oe reproductions in different widths

I use 8" rims with a 9" tire. I also have a set of tires that have on the sidewall 28x11.5 but they are only 8.8" wide.

The rims I have,I thought were 7".Inside lips measure 6.5"Rim is stamped 15x6.5"I think from listening to these posts I'm gonna order some cheapie Wheel Vintiques 15x8 (4.5 backspacing)from Summit and call it a day!
I'm very green when it comes to racing,or even t&t @ the track. I don't want the car to feel too squirrely @ the end.
Only bad thing is,I already had 4 of these rims (15x6.5) in perfect condition,no bends or warping, sandblasted, painted black & ready to go!
Thanks for all the replies!
