victor vs. sr - 01/25/11 11:21 PM

Just some thoughts on those 2 heads. How much better can the victor be? Thanks

My SR's make decent power with no mods...from what I'm told a MW port and they can really scream...I hope to find out in the future

I actually have the sr's now, they flow 340 or so.I'm just wondering if its worth the xtra $? 511ci. low deck.flat-tops,mech.roller,1090 king demon. 67 B-body 4:10 gears. Mostly a street car.I heard they will be faster, just wondering how much?

IMO not enough to buy if you already have sr's.

Re: victor vs. sr - 01/26/11 07:38 PM

I have a motor very similar to yours, 518 low deck pump gas(10.29 to 1 comp. ratio), I have ran it with a set of ported Eddy RPM and a set of 440-1. I have another motor, 527 C.I bracket race motor using a 440 block with M.W. size SR heads, they flowed 340 CFM at .700. That motor(12.9 to 1 comp ratio on race gas) made 775 hp with a single 1050 dominator, the 518 C.I. pump gas motor with the 440-1 heads and the same 1050 carb made the same HP on the same dyno late last year on Oregon pump gas The 518 with the CNC ported RPM heads made 718 HP and 744 Ft. lbs on the same brand pump gas as it did with the bigger heads My point is aren't the Victor heads standard 440 intake port size? If so go with the biggests heads you can. BTW don't be suprised if that 511 C.I. motor turns out top be a real tire smoker Mine is

Dont know my flow numbers but here are my specs
505 pump gas motor with 10.75:1 compression.
Custom ground Bullet roller, 640 lift
Hand ported MW Victor heads with 1.6 T&D rockers.
MW Rick Allison cross ram.
835 Holley carbs done by Ken Jones.
2”TTi’s
Motor made 730hp @ 5500rpm on Mobil 93oct pump gas

about the tire smoke on the street, I can cook them at 55mph,

Eddy makes 2 versions of the victors. got this from the web page

Victor Max Wedge
• Intake ports are machined to match Max Wedge intake manifolds for RB competition big-block Chryslers
• Intake ports are raised .650", exhaust ports are raised .250" for improved flow
• The intake flange is extended .950" to eliminate the need for intake spacer plates
• Exhaust flange is extended .300" from stock (same as Mopar Stage 6) featuring dry exhaust bolt holes with Helicoil® thread inserts
• Sold without springs or retainers; use recommended springs to match your cam

Victor Series Big Block Chrysler
• The best standard port location head available for competition big-block Chryslers
• Intake ports are raised .650", exhaust ports are raised .250" for improved flow
• Will fit Edelbrock Victor manifolds for both high and low deck engines
• Sold without springs or retainers; use recommended springs to match your cam
• Can be machined to match Max Wedge ports

Hope this adds some insight

Re: victor vs. sr - 01/26/11 08:31 PM

I don't think it is worth the money to change. I have a set of Victor heads on a 451 and feel that SR's and Victors are pretty even out of the box. Your SR's ported should be significantly better than Victors unported.

Are MW ported SR heads the same as a 440-EZ head I dont know all the lingo

Re: victor vs. sr - 01/26/11 10:39 PM

Right now my motor is 12.2 to 1. A guess would be somewhere in the 715 to 725 range.I've come to the conclusion that I would like to run on pump gas, 10.75 or so. If I can do the victors & stay close to where I am power wise, it's worth it to me. It seems that some of you guys have done this. I'm guess those heads will have to flow somewhere in the 380 range. Am I close?

Re: victor vs. sr - 01/26/11 11:25 PM

Yes, you're close. We made 700hp at Comp Cams on 93 octane with 446 inches in 08 using Modern Cylinder Head ported SR's. 370cfm if memory serves correct. It was also 12:1 CR.

Is that number from CNC porting or hand porting Do any guys besides mine hand port anymore I just always here about cnc porting now.
Has hand porting become an old school art

Re: victor vs. sr - 01/27/11 12:19 AM

Yes it was CNC'd. Someone still has to develop the port, but from a cost effective standpoint, it would be foolish to hand port heads if you had any volume of porting to do. The final product is much more consistent.

Like people are pointing out, it depends.
On the flow benches I am familiar with, an SR flowing 340 cfm will be a max wedge port. If not, the number can't be compared to what I know.

A fully ported, max wedge, Victor head can flow ~370 cfm. So if the engine is built right, it could support about 70 more HP. But out of the box, standard port, the Victor will flow less than your heads.

Re: victor vs. sr - 01/28/11 12:38 AM

just wondering how much is left in my sr heads? They are MW ports. Can they get in the 360 range? Am I talking about epoxy work now?
