Isnt' this sad.....

Isnt' this sad..... - 01/08/11 10:57 PM

I know you northern guys have your cars all bundled up for winter but we usually get to get out and play in the winter. Well this year that has not been the case.

Went over tday as I do weekly to make sure all is well and had my camera with me. My heap has been sitting in this condition since October. Between all the rain or the cold(relative cold low 40's for highs)we have not had it out since. Supposed to be racing a Divisonal at Phoenix in a few weeks and I have not done any stop testing with the fresh/new bullet. Not sure I want to tow that far with an untested combo. hopefully the weather will break soon....

Anyway here is the pathetic state of things...

Did you have antifreeze in your block?
Hope you didn't crack it.

Re: Isnt' this sad..... - 01/08/11 11:12 PM

We just had the coldest Dec in over a decade, and my heating bill reflects that.

More seriously, I hope you get some more normal temperatures so you can exercise the machinery...
and have some fun.

In Maryland the tracks tend to open in March for testing, and regular racing in April.

you're having a cold time, we're having our hottest. it was 108*F in the sun yesterday at our track & the track surface was recorded at 145*F at the peak of the day. i watched a bit of trackbite dribble off the applicator machine fizzle on the track surface. sure made them beers at the end of the day go down well.

Re: Isnt' this sad..... - 01/08/11 11:40 PM

No worries on the antifreeze, it rarely gets below freezing here and if it does it is onloy a few hours or so. I just keep the water level very very low..

Jeff-no worries, I know many here have had stuff sitting for much longer periods than this. But we all know I tend to get itchy if the car is just sitting and that is when I start thinking "hey I dont need this it is just sitting anyway, why not sell it".

I hate to see any of these fine cars just sitting around collecting dust. Mine may end up sitting for awhile as we are moving to Vegas in June. My wife is already there looking for a home.

Re: Isnt' this sad..... - 01/08/11 11:50 PM

I just got back from a week in Vegas on Monday. It was colder there than it was back here!! In fact, it actually SNOWED on Monday !!!

Never-the-less, Vegas is a place that everyone should go for New Years at least once in their lifetime !!!

Holy crap does that say $75 entry fee just for a test-n-tune?! I dont think I've ever paid over $20 for testing. For that steep of an entry there better be a race and a good payout! Thats ridiculous.

Yeah.. $75 is a bit on the steep side.. but it covers the car, driver and all the crew you can pile into the back of the tow vehicle..

Re: Isnt' this sad..... - 01/09/11 05:21 PM

I'm in the same boat Al.. you know I need more seat time before the season starts.. (on Jan 31st)..

On the bright side, we have TnT on

Sat Jan 15th Sac
Mon Jan 17th Infineon
Sat Jan 22nd Sac
Sat Jan 29th Sac
Sat Feb 5th Sac
Sat Feb 12th Bakersfield

and you can throw in the race at Infineon on Mon Jan 31st..

With some help from the weatherman, you'll be ready to tear it up in Az..

Re: Isnt' this sad..... - 01/09/11 05:48 PM

just think al, you could be back in omaha and have some snow with that. only it's about 18 deg. out now and it is snowing. it will be next month before i put my car back together. had to get all the sfi updates done.

Re: Isnt' this sad..... - 01/09/11 05:53 PM

Snow and cold is I woudl welcome actually. Cant race in the weather here so since it is winter I would just as soon have the snow. I know I am crazy but I am a midwestern kid stuck out here. I actually enjoyed the off season, I at least knew I had time to do what needed to be done.

Out here they front load the race schedule so much and the weather is so iffy this time of year it just sucks. We hardly race in the summer out here, guess it is to hot for the locals Then ad in the cost of doing anything out here, well you get the picture. Now with moving to Vegas it will be more of the same, only hotter in the summer and colder in the winter, and less cost at least.....

Re: Isnt' this sad..... - 01/09/11 08:00 PM

Let's see..... $20 brings out everyone and their dog. Crap starting line and poor prep because it's hopeless anyways with the street tires.

$75 weeds that out and provides a good track. At least that's my experience and for $75 I expect NO less.

....now if you'll excuse me it's time to go put some miles on the Harley!

Re: Isnt' this sad..... - 01/09/11 10:41 PM

Brisbane Australia recorded its coldist December in somthing like 80 years & the wettist since recordings began, we have most the state of Queensland in flood. The area flooded is bigger than Germany & France combined,The Fitzroy river in a city called Rockhampton is flowing the volume of Sydney habour everyday. Willowbank racway cancel the next race meet 10 days in advance with some more serious weather forcast for the coming week.

the latist update says now an area bigger than the states of New South Wales, ACT & Victoria combined is now under water, thats pretty much an area close the size of 1/4 Australia, and thats just in Queensland, they are talking now that areas of nothern New South Wales are under threat of heavy flooding.

top that with a prediction of up to 4 or 5 cyclones for Queensland this coming season

Well, the town went bankrupt and thats not good. The weather is always nice and the track is 15 minutes away. That makes it paradise to me.

This is the first test n tune Infineon has run that i can remember. With temps in the 40's to mid 50's they can't count on a big crowd to show up. With The cost of a full staff along with running the jet dryer like mad to get the track ready, the tracks costs have to be high. I'm willing to cough up $75. I'll be suprised if they get 100 cars.I'm thinking there will be ALOT of runs to be had.-Tom

Floods? If you live in an old river basin. Most of us don't.

Mudslides? Never actually seen one in 54 years-except on TV.

Forest fires? I guess if you live in the forest.

Earthquakes? Like a carnival ride-only free.

My shop isn't heated because that would be just stupid.

BOB...isn't it amazing how the rest of the states view us.....LOL....In the central valley the last quake I felt was the Loma Prieta that hit SF/Oakland back in what...92?....lol...if the water gets past ankle deep its because I stepped in the gutter...I can see the smoke in the mountains...but the fires are at least 70 miles away....and MUD here is for 4 wheeling...lol

I do love where I live... can have breakfast in Yosemite and Lunch in Monterey and Dinner in Lake Tahoe all in the same day.

when you think of Austraila you think of a dry, dusty sun burnt country, never a flood sence like this in an inland country town

Hey Al, tough crowd eh?
I was wondering how long it take for the "NORTHERNERS" to feel your pain

I use this off time to refine my ride, and recharge my body.

Chassisman and BobR your shops aren't HEATED, are they air conditioned?

Al I hope you get to test some though!
