What are our options? - 01/04/11 05:38 PM
I have been in the market for a new K frame for quite some time. After visiting several forums getting in debates about whats right and whats wrong who's is best etc..These are a few competitors on the block. If you where in market for a K frame which of these two would you prefer and why?
Here are a few that are our options:

What's the intended use of the car ? a street only car , a street/track car and a track only car will net you different responses .

What year and make car, A,B,E or C body ? I have a aftermarket tubular stock replacement K member for a early(pre 1967) A body that weighs one pound lighter than the stock K member
. I'm going to send it back to have it modified to a front rack and remove the stock steering box mounts and stock engine mounts,( I'm using a front motor plate for a BB) remove the torsion bars and so on.
I'm hoping those changes will lighten it up some

Look at CAP or RMS, or contact Bondo Bob for your car
I'm switching my 1965 dart to coil overs with front rack and pinion steering for header clearnaces for the BB, not the weight savings. I do have a Strange Engineering front disc brake conversion kit for the car using the stock nine inch spindles so some weight will come of of the brakes, not sure how much
I bought the Strange kit for the stopping power

Awbdart, that vid was great!! That RMS performed perfect. The vid of the steering wheel on the run says alot!
W9/Jason of the 3 K Frames you listed, Id say None of the above.
The first one, has never been tested or seen any track or road time yet. As stated by the builder.
The second one, with the builders lack of response in his thread, before the sale. Scratch that one.
The third one, Ive heard nothing but bad stories about. Like breaking by just doing burnouts in a Burger King parking lot.
As far as some other proven options, RMS, Altercation, Bobs ProFab, Or just lighten and refab the stock one. mike

I haven't heard a good thing about the Magnum force kits, but they were the first of their kind and many others have made their own kits. The other two look to be well built kits as far as fabrication goes, although I don't like the look of the steering arms and ball joints in the overkill product. It's something that will change no doubt as he is in the early stages of development. Bob's front end seems to be a proven product, whereas the Overkill and Tory's product are new kids on the block so to speak. That's not a bad thing if you're prepared to work with either guy to help make any improvements if necessary.
Aesthetics do play a big part for most of us, some may prefer a completely tubular K-Frame (myself included), some may just want a product that works.
Either way, hats off to all of those who produce these front end kits as they would consume a bunch of time for what can be at times, very little reward.

Allan, I was going to mention the steering arms too on the Overkill K frame. No doubt they will most likely be changed out as you state. Everything looked great until I saw those. Mike

Andy, is your steering column loose in that vid?

Thats good information fellas. So we can all agree that the magna force unit is not in the running of a quality product correct? I know the Overkill guy has a pretty good reputation in the yellowbullet community. How does his product fair in your eyes verses Bobs or Tory's? By just looking at pictures of the three..

Get-X Overkills fab work does look great.
I revisited the site and noticed he doesnt include the steering arm/ball joint on the grocery list of parts thats supplied with his kit. The one he shows is just for display.
On one of his posts he states he will adapt the end to fit what ever ball joint/steering arm you intend to use.
So that will leave the end user to make adjustments for bump steer and ackerman. Witch wont make this K frame user friendly for the average Joe. mike
